To think my Bacofoil Safeloc freezer bags shouldn't leak their contents when defrosting?

I grow lots of veg, bulk buy meat/fish and batch cook a lot of meals and freeze everything in portions in these Bacofoil Safeloc freezer bags. I then just transfer a bag of frozen food to the fridge for the next day's dinner.

I'm a bit fed up with the leakage though, soup for instance, the chunky bits remain in the bag but the broth leaks out of the bottom of the bag. DH took a bag of raw minced beef out of the freezer the other day and forgot to sit the bag in a container and the red bloody looking liquid leaked out making a mess of the fridge.

Does this happen with all freezer bags? I don't remember it ever happening when I first started using the Bacofoil bags a good few years ago but it's been going on for ages now so maybe I just need to change brand.

What bags would you recommend trying?

i use a zip seal aromata - seems ok but i would defrost over a container to be on the safe side

I think these are what I used before the Bacofoil ones, can't remember them leaking. I should pick up a box and try them again. Thanks!

No matter the container - always use a container to defrost - you will always get fluid from a defrosting item. I have vacuum sealed bags and still get fluid from defrosting. I think its inevitable

I tend to double-bag things like this. Especially things that are liquidy, like a bolognaise or similar. That stops a lot of leakage, but I'd always stand defrosting things in a bowl or on a plate to catch any dribbles.

I always put defrosting items on a plate or in a bowl because even if I'm defrosting something in a plastic container it will always leave a puddle of water in the fridge. I have no idea what happens with bags, the water always looks like it's leaked from inside the bag but when I've emptied the bag and done a leak test with water there are no holes. If anyone has an explanation I'd be interested.

Interesting, I've never had leakage from any of my vacuum sealed bags and I didn't used to get any from the bacofoil ones either when I first started using them.

Yeah, that's right, you will always get some water forming on the outside of the bag/container that is defrosting.
