Uc? Change of circumstances

If I want to report any changes, what’s the best date to do it please ? In between the assessment period ? Or payment date or?
I’m worried as my father has moved in with me who’s disabled
Will he be expected to pay some towards my rent ? Am I best of having him as a tennant or occupier ? It’s a council house
How much will it change my uc please?
Thanks

You need to report the change as soon as it happens, or as soon as you are made aware of it.

Does your dad pay rent where he currently lives? Does he claim universal credit? Have you made the council aware he has moved in?

Yes the council know he’s moved in. He’s a pensioner . He’s 81 and disabled so not on uc xx

I believe there will be no deductions from your uc as he is receiving disability benefits.
You will need to report it to your local council if you are receiving benefit from them. There maybe a deduction unless he is receiving pension credit

You report it to UC as soon as he moves in or before, providing his move in date. Here are the rules...

Report the change of circs now - if he has been there a week or two, I would not worry, tell them you were not sure this would be a permanent move if they ask. Give them the date he became a permanent resident.

They will want to know what his income is, and in some cases it's expected he'd contribute to the household (as he is a family member), even if he isn't actually making those contributes. It may be that none of his income counts, in which case it won't affect your benefits.

As pp says if your dad is in receipt of a disability benefit I don't think a non dependent deduction would come off your rent element ( assuming you get the rent element). If he is in receipt of a disability benefit and you are caring for him for 35 hours a week and don't already get the UC carers element already then you can look at claiming that.

Put him down as whatever the council have him listed as, I think it will be occupier but I would double check with them before submitting it to UC.

I agree with PP, I don't think it will affect your UC but it is difficult to say for certain. I volunteer and sometimes help people communicate/understand UC and I know of one woman in a similar situation, she was asked to submit a joint claim with her parent (despite them not being of working age) but it did not change their entitlement (this was a few years ago so it may have changed).
