I’ve rejected a used car am I going to have a nightmare

Just that really. After having to call the RAC after 6 days of ownership for full electrical failure, I have rejected my car and returned it to the (very unhappy) dealership. I have followed the advice of the CAB and trading standards to the letter but still suspect I am embarking on an absolute nightmare to get my money back. Anyone had this experience? Any advise

Sounds like a dodgy dealership. A good dealership would be apologetic for the massive trouble you’ve had with the car!

Fight your corner!

I've not experienced this but I would have returned that car for a full refund too. Just keep mentioning "Trading Standards" and "not fit for purpose" at every opportunity and don't back down. The dealership sound as dodgy as hell, I wouldn't accept a replacement car from them either.

Its very difficult, but stand your ground. I managed to get a refund on a seriously dodgy car but I'd paid on a credit card so did a S75 chargeback.

What will help is an independent report from a mechanic (or the RAC if they'll do it) that's what I provided and got my money back. But it was a ballache and it was stressful.

The dealer i bought from was AA approved too! Still are actually, despite the dangerous cars they sell to the public 🤷‍♀️

We had to do this a few years ago, like you I followed Trading Standards advice at the time and wrote a letter rejecting the second hand car which had problems with the clutch/gearbox. The national dealership offered a straight swap for another more expensive vehicle which we had been interested in first and we accepted that car with no further problems arising.

Good luck getting your money back, the law is on your side.

You've only had it six days.. I think the law is on your side.

You could try AA mediation services or RAC if they have them. Mediation services are not great but

Did you pay for any portion of the car with a Credit Card... they may be able to help

Finally you could start Small Claims proceedings. you have to do a letter before action which shows you mean business. (thats before you have to pay anything)

You've returned it well within the deadline so you should have a good case.

(I'm not a legal expert )

I had to do this once. The key words are 'not safe'. Follow Trading Standards and use those words.

Thank you all! The dealership is currently threatening to charge me £25 a day if I don’t pick up the car that I have rejected and returned to them
