AIBU to want to kill a colleague?

I was asked by a colleague,on Monday, for a time to have a call and quick discussion. I emailed my availability.

I got a reply on Tuesday, asking for a time I said I was on another call. I gave my availability for the whole week.

There is a time difference which sometimes causes von, so I was very clear that all times were his time.

Wednesday, I get "Now works for me, are you free?". No I was not, it was a time I had blocked out to be on another call. This happened twice.

This morning it happened again. Each time I replied specifying when I am free, when I am not free. Tomorrow I am generally free most of the day, just have calls 9-11 and 1-2. He has asked to be slotted in at 10. Fuck this man. It is melting my head.

Really hope you’re contributing to some sort of crime anthology, and this becomes the plot of your story - 2 crime authors who’ve never met, 1 driven to murder by the other’s inability to comprehend a simple fucking email 😂

🤣🤣🤣

@BrightSpark10 My understanding is that they aren’t in the same outlook system as they’re both consultants. This would be fairly straightforward to check each others availability if they both had a company email/outlook. Either that or the OP is as annoying as he is!

You are right. We are not on any shared system. We do not work for a company, we are both self employed and merely contributing to the same project.

It feels like aa power play. Though then I questioned whether that is fair of me.

I wouldn’t say it’s a power play, I’d say it’s just a typical ‘can’t read a f*ing e-mail’ ineptitude.
Take him out of the meeting organisation responsibility. Arrange the meeting at a time that suits you and send him the invite.
Job done.

If he's like this with other people then I'm only surprised that he's not already dead 🤔🙄

Namechangedforthis25 · 04/10/2025 10:59

Just be really firm:

as mentioned I am only free during these times - please choose one of those times and not any other.

BatshitIsTheOnlyExplanation · 04/10/2025 11:01

He's probably got the time difference the wrong way round.
But I agree he's annoying.

Surely only an utter doughnut doesn't realise that the USA is behind Europe, especially if he's working with people in Europe?

They are behind. He is EST and that is 5 hours behind GMT.

Ty everyone. I'm glad I am not the only one who finds murder appropriate 🤣🤣🤣

I have sent one email stating my availability this week and have said that perhaps if our schedules just don't align, the editor can sort out any overlap.

It just irks me because one or both of us may need to do rewriting that is totally unnecessary if we had a simple conversation now! If it is me, I will look at the anthrax option 🤣

Oh if he lives in the US that’s easy.

A) Get on plane
B) Arrive in States
C) Buy gun
D) Shoot colleague
E) Dispose of colleague’s body in nearest Large Body of Water (v common in eastern US)
F) Enjoy local sights
G) Dispose of gun (Alternatively, smuggle gun back to Britain in case of Troublesome Neighbours)
H) Write bestselling novel titled “Murder Vacation”

Simple.

Yes exactly, and I am saying anyone in the US who works with Europeans would surely be aware of that. My response was to the poster that said he might have got it the wrong way round. If he has, then what a buffoon!

Namechange822 · 05/10/2025 04:18

Is he for some reason purposely trying to look collaborative but not meet you?

For example, might he think that if you meet he will have to revise his chapter (could he perhaps know from earlier notes that it significantly overlaps yours?). But that if he does this irritating dance he can “show evidence” that he tried to meet to the editor and they’ll make you rewrite yours?
