I’m a very anxious person especially around threats of terrorism thanks in part to having brothers in the British Army in Northern Ireland during The Troubles. I’m not a fan of that misnomer. I believe most people would be anxious after any recent terror attack. The sight of extra police especially armed police makes me more anxious. I know they are supposed to be reassuring but I see them and think they are expecting trouble and that it’s more likely to happen.
I was due to take 10 year old Ds into Manchester City centre after school today. It’s not near the scene of the awful attack today but I don’t know if I am overreacting avoiding the city centre. I’m
Autistic and have no friends to talk about things like this. I’m expecting a greater police presence around town. I don’t need to go. We’ve planned this trip but it doesn’t matter if we don’t go but maybe I’m being silly and something awful is no more likely to happen today than any other day.
I’m sickened by the hatred in this country and around the world in general. Will it ever end.

Don’t pass your fears onto your son.

There is rumours of protests happening around 5 30 around Manchester Piccadilly, I think it's more to do with the Gaza flotilla more than today's incident but there could still be tensions. I do think lots of police and security will be around but more the disruption of travel on trains /trams especially with bus strikes on too.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 02/10/2025 16:08

The buses aren’t all on strike. It’s only certain depots. Plenty of services are still running as normal. Mine were as normal earlier. Op doesn’t need the bus.

Probably a bit late now, but I was in Manchester this morning and it’s ramping up for the Tory party conference so the centre is probably the safest it’ll ever be. Lots of concrete barricades, metal arches and increased security presence.

I’ve never seen so many police at piccadilly train station. No police fitted around town that i could see but a big presence in front of the station for a pro Palestinian protest and a long line of officers in front of the ticket gates. Piccadilly gardens was very quiet apart from what looked like a homeless man being arrested and put in the back of a police van. Manchester seemed a little quieter in general than last week.
