AIBU to be pleasantly surprised when things work?

Husband sent his passport application off for renewal a couple of weeks ago and the new passport arrived today.

It suddenly struck me how pleasantly surprised we were that it arrived in a decent timeframe and that the system just seemed to work. I’ve just become so used to so many simple things taking so long and just not working well that it’s now a surprise when they work as they should.

Yanbu, i'm exactly the same. I kept on chasing the passport people as I was expecting delays but it went fine

Trauma response maybe, dunno

Yanbu, I think we’re so used to being disappointed and messed around that when something goes how it should it’s a bit of a shock.

YANBU

As someone going through a tedious and frustrating mortgage application, it’s been as disappointingly difficult as I expected.

I’d love to be pleasantly surprised!

I’d love to be pleasantly surprised.

It’s endless chasing for things and nonsensical sending round the houses on wild goose chases. Some tasks just feel like Groundhog Day. I used to be much more optimistic, I promise!

Wishing you all pleasant surprises!

It's even down to ordinary customer service interactions - I am so surprised now when things work as they should. Twice recently I have booked a ticket (one cinema, one theatre) and then found I couldn't make the date. On both occasions I have quickly and easily been able to swap them for an alternative date. No fuss, no teeth-sucking, no extra charges, just "certainly - when would you like to come?" Also a recent problem with a direct debit. A couple of emails and all fixed. Amazing Smile

Last week I took my partner to A&E after she suffered a severe nosebleed that wouldn't stop. Once there, she was seen to and allocated a bed (they wanted to keep her in for observation) within an hour. I guess having blood coming out of you is one way to get seen quickly.

I think in modern life you have to expect very little/presume the worst and if something works/is easy have a small celebration.
Jolly aren't i? And no Im not fun at partys.
Wishing you all small wins.xx

Our house buidling and contents insurance came up for annual renewal - it was £100 less than last year. I was so surprised that I phoned them up to check that everything was the same, and to remind them that we are in a (slight) flood risk area - even pointed themin the direction of the flood risk notification.

Nope, it was all correct. Very pleasantly surprised.

Since covid companies seem to have got used to treating their customers with utter contempt - Virgin, EDF to name a couple. IME there are a few exceptions (Octopus, John Lewis). I think people are starting to vote with their feet and hopefully this will lead to a turnaround.

I’m really impressed by the efficiency of the NHS at the minute. Everything they promised to do has been done in a timely manner. TBH I’m amazed!! (I’m a nurse in the same trust, I know how inefficient it is!)

I'm enjoying this positivity!
