I have had a bloody twitching eyelid for over 2 weeks now, it’s getting worse rather than better and it’s driving me insane beyond that, I could cry! It’s not like a twitch I’ve had before it’s when I blink almost like my eyelid gets stuck.
is it worth going to the Gp?

Maybe an optician would be a better starting point ? Could be eye strain for example.

Twitches lasting longer than 2 weeks, the NHS website advises to see the GP

Twiceadaytoday · 01/10/2025 20:14

See a GP but in meantime drink electrolytes- that always works for me with a persistent eye twitch.

I had this once when I was really stressed for a long period of time. GP said to monitor and see if it went away and if not there were options (I think Botox?) to fix it. So I’d see the gp now so that if it doesn’t go away, you aren’t starting the clock a few weeks from now.

I have a twitching eyelid when I am stressed! Always just one eye! Drives me nuts!

HÆLTHEPAIN · 01/10/2025 21:33

It’s funny you’ve posted this because it’s reminded me that the twitchy eyes I’ve had recently, that seemed to last for ages, has completely stopped. I’m wondering if it was caused by irritation or hay fever or something.

It does say to get checked if over 2 weeks, but mine was probably more like 2 months and I didn’t bother!😬

Justwingingit2005 · 01/10/2025 21:35

Stress...... even if you don't feel particularly stressed.

violetcuriosity · 01/10/2025 21:36

Try some magnesium and calcium too!

lightnesspixie · 01/10/2025 21:51

Drink tonic water it’s a miracle cure. Dw it’s stress and/or fatigue pure and simple

Gnarab24 · 01/10/2025 21:52

This is not something to see your GP about, there’s absolutely nothing they can do about it. See your optometrist if you want reassurance.

TheWonderhorse · 01/10/2025 22:06

The NHS website says see a GP after two weeks. I've had them longer though and it's never been anything, but if your eye is closing or it feels different to the regular twitches then definitely get checked out. There are potential underlying causes to rule out.

PumpkinCosySpice · 01/10/2025 23:05

Thanks everyone. As I say usually when my eye has twitched before it’s been when my eye is open just randomly where as this is very much just when I blink. I can close my eyes in the mirror and see it almost flicker when I open them!
i’ll try to get more sleep but that’s easier said than done with my DC at the moment, and take some supplements, maybe drink a bit more water and see if it helps. I’ve never known something more irritating!!

The NHS would disagree with you. It is advised to see your GP if a twitch lasts more than 2 weeks.

I’ve just thought.. I recently started using an eyelash growth serum .. I just can’t remember if it was before or after the twitch started. Could that be the cause??
