Not feeling sorry for her at all . She deserves it ( and all the others who made bucks on the backs of the rest of us ) .
I thought it was only the King and Richard Branson who had that sort of money …..I am very naive!

UK government wins £122m pandemic case against Michelle Mone-linked firm over faulty PPE

Trial heard 25m surgical gowns supplied by PPE Medpro to protect NHS staff were unusable and could ‘seriously harm or kill patients’

I'd certainly like to see her given a lengthy prison sentence.

Pollyanna87 · 02/10/2025 08:00

A fine isn’t enough. There need to be severe prison sentences for these kind of crimes.

Can they not be charged with corporate manslaughter ?
They knowingly sold un sterile equipment in a pandemic, this could and probably did contribute to deaths and spread of infections in the staff wearing them.

Nobody died. Someone has to die for there to be manslaughter.

roses2 · 02/10/2025 08:04

Here is the BBC documentary, I'll be watching this!

BBC Scotland - The Rise and Fall of Michelle Mone

She may have closed down the company but at least the investigation had the foresight to freeze £75m of her assets which I hope will be taken away from her.

WaryCrow · 02/10/2025 08:10

This your first introduction to the scale of Britain’s inequality op? Cos yeah, there is plenty of money sloshing around in Britain. This perfectly illustrates one of the main methods of acquiring it too - ripping off the public sector, passing laws which force the public sector to hand money hand over fist to private corporations for shoddy services and goods. It’s quite well known.

Meanwhile we all work harder than ever and a third, nearly, of children live in relative poverty.

This is why the idea that Britain is bankrupt so we can’t afford nurses or hospitals without lights falling out is such a fucking joke.

The Scale of Economic Inequality in the UK - Equality Trust

The UK has very high inequality of income compared to other developed countries. The UK's wealth inequality is much more severe than income inequality.

Quite a few people died, staff included. What you mean is no individual death can be specifically pinned down on this. It may well have been a contributing factor and was abusive towards all the medical staff working and taking risks to help others.

Not that it makes much difference, look at Grenfell.

There surely must be SOMETHING they can be charged with?

SumUp · 02/10/2025 08:19

Directors can be held liable for running the business in a negligent way. I hope they also go after her for fraud if it has been committed.

Using non-sterile supplies in situations where sterile ones are mandated absolutely could cause infections and consequent loss of life potentially. Buying sterile versions is a lot more expensive and is not usually done unless there is justification.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 02/10/2025 08:24

Why wasn't the used PPE returned as soon as they realised it was not to standard and an immediate refund demanded?

Aiteal · 02/10/2025 08:40

Those VIP lanes …. When if I remember right there were uk companies offering their services but didn’t get a look in. Disgusting. I hope that current contingency plans include “ready to go” contracts for vital equipment with genuinely reputable businesses.

I also recommend the TV programme it was enlightening

Iwantmyoldnameback · 02/10/2025 08:24

Why wasn't the used PPE returned as soon as they realised it was not to standard and an immediate refund demanded?

Why was it paid for? Who accepted it and passed the invoice for payment? If I accepted something similar and didn't have the necessary quality documentation then payment would not have been approved until all documents had been received.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 02/10/2025 08:24

I suspect because that might have meant shipping it back to e.g. China for a refund, or at at least getting a refund from someone in that part of the world.

That might have been somewhat difficult amd might have meant red faces for the supplier and more importantly for whoever at HMG OK'd the contract.

Probably easier all round to quietly (and almost literally) bury the problem.

hollyblueivy · 02/10/2025 08:55

Surely they can’t just get away with it by filing bankruptcy- it’s a licence to do what you like with no repercussions

HelloCanYouHearMe · 02/10/2025 09:01

I have nothing of value to add to this thread, but I will state that they are both disgusting excuses for human being and I can only hope that they end up in jail.

There is a criminal investigation on-going into them isn't there? Did I read correctly that they have had assets frozen and that there is a National Crime Agency investigation into PPE Medpro that is ongoing?

nomas · 02/10/2025 16:30

Surely if her husband is the company's ultimate beneficial owner, then there is some recourse to him?

If not, this is a travesty.

Bobbingtons · 02/10/2025 18:51

There needs to be a full scale public enquiry into the VIP lane. Almost all the money went to personal friends of Tories, almost all of it was inadequate, reputable PPE suppliers were ignored and people like Mone and Matt Hancock's publican friend.
In addition there should be a review of LTD companies law which is now often used to protect the owners from liability when dodgy things happen. The amount of people I know who have lost tens of thousands to builders who take the money, do no work and then move into administration after siphoning t the money from the company is shocking.
For me the PPE scandal is up there with Horizon as one of the biggest scandals of the last 50 years.

This warrants jail time for fraud not just a fine.

She used her contacts inc Michael Gove to get the contract then shopped online at Temu to buy a bunch of shit to sell back to the government with a 10000% markup. Took the money and wound down the company.

It’s theft and corruption and she’s responsible for making laws for little people including reducing vital services which could have been funded by the money she stole from the tax payer.

She can sew badly made Ultimo underwear tat in Holloway jail.

Edited

If that's true she deserves a big jail sentence. People will have died thanks to her.

KnitKnitKnitting · 02/10/2025 19:16

I’d be surprised if it gets paid back.

But yes, sorry OP but you have been naive. The Sunday times rich list lists the 1000 richest individuals or families in the UK. The bottom of that list is worth £350 million!

The programme about her (BBC?) is definitely an interesting watch!

Saw both episodes last night, it was a really great watch. I started off thinking wow she seems so lovely, hardworking then the programme turns on her.

She has done a lot of damage to her face in recent years with all the botox - she looked terrible in the final few scenes!

Is this a new programme? I will be watching this weekend.

The government have said they're going to be ruthless about recovering the money. I hope this means taking the £60m Barrowman and Mone have put in trust, including for their children.

It’s been out a few months. It’s called The Rise & Fall of Michelle Mone on bbc iPlayer.

ExitViaGiftShop · 03/10/2025 15:58

She is an absolute disgrace. When we consider the state of our public services and the daily suffering of ordinary people, due to poor services, and that piece of shite has the fucking nerve to claim she is the victim, it’s unreal. She claims she is being scapegoated….well start singing like a canary then ‘chelle. Hang them all out to dry, you self serving scum bag.

ExitViaGiftShop · 03/10/2025 16:08

The government need to ensure she is adequately punished and the money is recouped. I urge everybody to claim for any benefits they are entitled to, put in a claim for everything you feel you are owed. If trash like this, who currently has a position in the House of Lords ( fucks sake), can grift this colossal amount of money, we can all claim a few pennies in comparison. Ordinary, hard working people need to see justice. This represents another sign of the social contract being ripped up.

Do you think her actions caused harm to others, directly or indirectly? I will watch that BBC documentary.
