So when it’s bin day obviously the bins once emptied are just dumped wherever. Next doors (semi detached) has two bins and both were left blocking my driveway on the pavement.

This was yesterday morning and they still haven’t come and moved them.

They really are petty people.

Can you ask them to move their bins as its causing you to be blocked in

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 01/10/2025 15:47

BlueSeagull · 01/10/2025 15:32

Out of interest @cherryexplos do you work? Only ask as my retired mum spends time obsessing over things that really aren’t an issue put it down to having too much time on her hands

Edited

Yeah this. My mum (when she stopped work and was at home all the time) used to obsess over daft things that were very trivial - and make a massive issue out of small things.

She would start ranting about how Maureen and Beryl over the road are talking about her, and how evil they were, standing there, chatting across the garden fence, and they were definitely talking about her!

She would also rant about Louise (3 doors down) parking her car on the road, even though it didn't affect her remotely (mum had no car/didn't drive.) Louise wasn't in anyone's way, and she didn't have a driveway, so the road was the only place to park!!!

She also banged on about 'that Carol' at No 9 who had a different man every week, and knew how long each man was there. A sure sign of having too much time on your hands!

I think the OP @cherryexplos needs to get out more!

They are home.

But yes I think it’s gross and lazy to not move your own bin when it was collected at 8am yesterday morning.

Oh dear, you really DO need to get out more! 😬

Livpool · 01/10/2025 15:48

You sound petty! We put the bins away between us and NDN - I have never given it much thought

Dutchhouse14 · 01/10/2025 15:49

Just move them over

JustMyView13 · 01/10/2025 15:57

cherryexplos · 01/10/2025 10:56

You leave your empty bin out for over a day and don’t collect it?

Yes. I do.
CBA sometimes after a long day at work. It’s not really petty, it’s more a bottom rung priority.
If they were blocking a neighbours drive, when I notice, I’d sort that. I may not bring them in though.
Anyway, and I’ll get scalded for this no doubt - it’s a blue job in our house.

Lollipopsicle · 01/10/2025 15:59

Good grief! On the scale of things to get worked up about, this is really low down on the list. Just pathetic.

The horror! The horror! 😱

FartyAnimal · 01/10/2025 16:02

I assume.ypu manage to move your own in without vomiting? So just shift theirs at the same time. It's really pathetic to say it makes you feel sick (which is the sort of thing a teenager says to get out of doing something helpful).

MrsArcher23 · 01/10/2025 16:02

Are you helpless?

LochKatrine · 01/10/2025 16:03

cherryexplos · 01/10/2025 12:29

Because I don’t want to touch someone else’s bin?

Why is it different from touching your own bin?
Or can't you touch that either?

Whoevenarethey · 01/10/2025 16:03

Just move the bins when you moved your own. Presumably you went out to take yours in, so you could have just moved their bins over to their side of the driveway at the same time. You would still be washing your hands after doing your own bin so makes sense to move the neighbours off the driveway at the same time.

MrsArcher23 · 01/10/2025 16:04

(Runs out to bring in the bins that were collected yesterday morning at 5am…)

Maddy70 · 01/10/2025 16:04

The bin men leave them there. You move them if they're yours

Don't come on here with all this common sense!
I think she should log it with 101.

Love a neighbour thread! Always click on them 😂

OP didn't ask if it was a big deal. She didn't make out she's at home, siting at the windows, angrily staring at the bins, and that it's consuming her every waking thought and haunting her dreams.

She wrote a very short post asking if it's bad neighbour etiquette.

Of course it is. It's inconsiderate. It's low level, sure, but the answer to the OP's question is still yes.

muddyford · 01/10/2025 16:09

I replace three or four of my neighbours' bins each week.

IdaGlossop · 01/10/2025 16:10

Gracious me. Love thy neighbour is alive and kicking on your street.

Sasha07 · 01/10/2025 16:51

The bin men touch every bin without changing their gloves so any germs your bin has are the same as the neighbours and you'll surely be washing your hands afterwards anyway, just roll them out of the way. You're cutting your nose off to spite your face otherwise. I have an unwritten rule with next door, it just kind of happened one day, whoever gets to it first bring both our bins in. I don't like touching bins either... But it's life and over with in seconds.

That's what we do. Makes sense.

I live in a cul de sac and we have to put our bins at the entrance. I always bring my bin in once it’s emptied but some neighbours don’t. I understand people might be at work but I get annoyed when the bins are not put away more than a day later. I’m with you OP. It’s just basic standards.

Greentopping · 01/10/2025 17:50

We put each others back here. Sometimes people are away or ill or working inside and haven't realised. That's the neighbourly thing to do in my mind.

nomas · 01/10/2025 17:54

Get some disposable gloves.

Put their bins in the middle of the road.

If they say anything, tell them the bin men must have done it.

Yes, I can't imagine being so petty....
