They think my father has got cancer and he’s down as urgent as. I just chased it and they said even tho it’s urgent it could still take 5 months to be seen???? Won’t it of spread massively in 5 months ? 😰

Are you in England?
Ask about the 2 week pathway.

Eatyourmanicotti · 30/09/2025 09:51

My Dad died having sat on a waiting list for 8 months.

It’s absolutely shocking in the UK right now. He was only in his 60s.

Complain, cancer is a two week pathway not 5 months. This happened to my mother in law, wasnt taken seriously for well over 18 months Despite her weight dropping down to only 6 stone 1 - they kept pushing it back and saying it was other things without tests despite a lung xray showing a black shadow…. had to take her to a&e for a scan as she was so poorly. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and died 5 weeks later. She would most likely still be here if they had taken her seriously 18 months piror.

cancer pathway is not the same as urgent. he should be on the 2 week pathway, not on the urgent one. Speak to GP or complain to PALS.

owlpassport · 30/09/2025 10:03

Just so you can be accurate when you complain, the two week pathway no longer exists. In England it's now the Faster Diagnosis standard: Cancer waiting times | Cancer Research UK

It would be useful OP if you can clarify - who thinks he might have cancer, and who is the referral to?

Cancer waiting times

There are waiting time targets for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in the different UK nations.

Get straight onto pals. A friend of mine has recently been told her cancer has spread too much for her planned surgery in the 8 weeks it took to get her a scan. The hospital had apparently lost her referral. Contact with pals sparked immediate action but may have been too late to save her life.

Which part of the UK ?
And what type of cancer is suspected ?

I'm in England and have been treated very quickly for two separate cases of primary cancer in the last eighteen months.... But I realise I may have been lucky with the particular NHS Trust I fell under.

Our health board in Wales they're unable to fulfil the pathway.
