I know this may not be the right place, but it has the most traffic

Interview on Thursday - b7 - focus will be on Governance & Leadership

I already feel on the back foot as I am an external candidate, so if you have interviewed at this level, what questions were you asked, how did you answer or if you have interviewed candidates at this level, what did you ask and what answers were you looking for?

I have got through to interview and previously let myself down as I haven't drilled down enough.

What's the role?

VenusStarr · 29/09/2025 17:04

Just a few initual thoughts:

They'll likely ask you about the Trust values, so look on their website, perhaps some examples ready.

What is the Trust strategic vision - try to align your responses with that.

Think about your leadership style, what you bring to the organisation.

Will you be managing a team? They might ask about how you would approach your first 3 months in role.

What are the objectives of the role - will you be developing a strategic vision in the role? Is it a new post, or existing?

Do you need to prepare a presentation or anything?

Good luck!

On a Band7 I wouldn’t be expecting loads of leadership experience tbh, it’s more a managerial type level , just prepare some examples of the usual, when you’ve managed conflict, how you’d deal with poor performance etc. as the Pp said; absolutely know the trusts strategic priorities, try and make your responses patient focused ( whatever you do you’re doing it to improve the life outcomes of the people that use the services etc)
in relation to governance , make sure you know all the statutory responsibilities of the trust, how to deal with data appropriately, GDPR, data sharing etc. how to escalate through appropriate channels for decision making.

I might be able to help more if you want to share the type of role more specifically?

Spacecowboys · 29/09/2025 17:40

Pay attention to the job description and personal spec , there will likely be questions related to their content.
There's usually a couple of questions that require you to draw on your own experiences.
Depending on the role you are applying for, it can be difficult to join the nhs on a band 7. There are usually band 6's already in the team who are waiting for a promotion opportunity. An informal visit is probably a good idea.

I appreciate that, I did want to go, but due to holidays, then coming down with a chest infection I wasn't able to get over, I did explain that, but I know I am on the back foot

Can I PM you ?

Of course

NoctuaAthene · 29/09/2025 18:46

Put the JD and/or the PS into an AI (co pilot or chat gpt), it will come up with a pretty accurate list of suggested questions - TBH your interviewer may be doing the exact same thing!

NoctuaAthene · 29/09/2025 18:48

If you want to get super lazy, give the AI your CV as well and get it to write you some answers using examples from your career history to answer those questions. Do not under any circumstances (!!!) then read these answers back (particularly not in a robotic monotone!) literally as written by the software, you must use your own words and natural language (cannot emphasize these enough), but it will give you a starting point...

Remember STAR

Situation
Task
Action
Result

NHS interviews are based on, “can you give me an example of …” Also normally a question about handling a difficult situation, conversation or member of staff 😂
