Fruit flies & moths

Is anyone else’s home full of them? I clean the surfaces multiple times a day, don’t leave food out. Disinfect the bins and vacuum daily however they seem to linger. I just wondered if anyone else has an issue, and if it seasonal?!

Yes we’ve been inundated with the fruit flies. We thought it was just us but our neighbour told us he had them too. They’ve got better now it’s gone a bit colder but if I leave anything out even a used teabag on the teabag tray, they turn up. No plants in the house or food hidden anywhere as I’ve ransacked the place. Poured stuff done the plug holes too to try kill any nests.

Fruit flies galore here 😡

Spanador · 29/09/2025 14:36

Yes we've got loads at the moment too! Thought it was just us but maybe not

We have the issue with the fruit flies since we went on holiday. Trying to get of it but they keep coming back.
Apparently they settle in the drains when not in use so we've been trying to clean the drains but it just gets better for a few days and then they're all back!

Cider apple vinegar in a ramekin with a dash of fairy liquid. Cover with cling film and poke a couple of holes - attracts them all :) I think ours are a result of living next to an orchard and no cold weather here (yet)

Are you talking about drain flies too? I’ve never had them before but recently moved into a new property and went in the kitchen one morning to find these moth type things everywhere- on googling they’re drain flies and love sludge apparently down the drain 🤢, but on the plus slide, like fruit flies are totally harmless.

Yes house is full of fruit flies, apple cider vinegar doesn’t work there is too many been trying that for months just can’t get rid of them

Wineinbathtub · 29/09/2025 16:18

We had this and a combination of apple cider vinegar traps and the fly strips you can buy that attract them and trap them got rid of them after a couple of days

We’ve got fruit flies coming out of the soil of certain plants - don’t seem to be able to get rid of them!

I came to say this, though I don't use clingfilm over the top. It works a treat!

Every time we open the kitchen bin (which is emptied regularly, I hasten to add!) some fly out. It does my head in.

Well the apple cider vinegar and washing up liquid is working a treat for me so thank you to everyone who suggested it! 6 in the bathroom since last night and 4 in the kitchen since this morning!!!

I've found beer works a treat too even without clingfilm.. I hate them, well all flies but I've seen a few spiders around so hopefully they might help too
