I thought it was widely understood that you don't eat nuts on a plane. The woman next to me just cracked a packet open!

Yes, unless I was asked by crew not to due to someone's allergies, in which case I would do as asked.

Gallopingfanjo · 28/09/2025 22:13

Im not sure that’s true OP, it sometimes gets requested that one doesn’t, but it’s far from banned

Sahara123 · 28/09/2025 22:13

Oh help I flew home yesterday and ate nuts on the plane. They were being sold in the airport?

Pleasegodgotosleep · 28/09/2025 22:13

Absolutely not. That's so selfish.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 28/09/2025 22:14

Yes. I've been served a bowl of warm nuts on flights.

McSpoot · 28/09/2025 22:14

Many airlines still serve nuts (especially in business and first).

BusWankers · 28/09/2025 22:14

Yes. Have done and will continue to do so..

If an announcement has been made definitely not. Even then I'd check with my seat neighbours as not all airlines do them. In theory, I wouldn't ever do it as I'm parent to an epipen carrier.

But I know you can always avoid allergy triggers unfortunately, most deaths are milk allergy sufferers for that reason - no one would think to resist a cheese sandwich for that reason on a plane.

44PumpLane · 28/09/2025 22:15

Unless I was told there was someone with an allergy onboard then I absolutely would eat nuts. It would seem odd not to if they were offered (or if I happened to have peanut M&Ms with me)

Gingercar · 28/09/2025 22:15

As ex cabin crew, we served nuts in first and business class regularly, and people were fine to eat their own nuts. We would occasionally do an anouncement asking for nuts not to be consumed if there was someone onboard with an allergy, but policy might have changed since I left.

thenightsky · 28/09/2025 22:15

Yes. But I only once was on a flight where we were asked not to due another passenger's allergy. Obviously we all complied.

McSpoot · 28/09/2025 22:15

Yesterday.

Surprising!

Yes I would unless it was announced it was a nut free flight, then of course I wouldn’t.

fluffiphlox · 28/09/2025 22:15

Not if you’d been told not to by cabin crew. Otherwise, yes.

They sell nuts in open containers in supermarkets for weeks at a time.
Peanuts and nuts are everywhere.

Mistyglade · 28/09/2025 22:16

If I wanted some although planes dehydrate me so no.

stichguru · 28/09/2025 22:16

I wouldn't if I had been asked not to. Would otherwise.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/09/2025 22:16

Yes, unless told not to. I eat nuts constantly, in public all the time.

Tiredofwhataboutery · 28/09/2025 22:16

Unless asked not to I think it’s fair game. I’ve been on a plane where they have said no peanuts/ peanut products. I think if there is someone with a severe allergy on board the onus is on the crew to inform other passengers,

Purpleturtle45 · 28/09/2025 22:17

I knew they weren't banned but I thought it was accepted that they were best avoided. The woman was sitting next to my son and as a minimum I would have thought she would have checked.

Yes unless there was an announcement not to, in which of course not.
