I am going throgh a lot of uncertainty at the moment.
Everyday I have an anxiety feeling in my stomach and feel uneasy. I know things will resolve themselves, hopefully before Christmas but has anyone any advice how to cope with it.

Some mornings I'm retching and the noise is absolutely disgusting. I might be sick, other times im not. I can just about cope with that but its the feelings im my stomach thats awful.

Im doing a lot of self care eg, mindful eating, sleep and relaxation, etc.
Any tips would be great fully received!

Bumping for you OP.

Hopefully someone with better advice will be along soon.

Beta blockers, especially if its a short term thing. I only need them a few times a week but they are helping me get through everyday stuff at the moment.

I've also just finished a course of cbt. A lot of it is really obvious, in the past I've dismissed it as I couldn't see how working to change my thinking could help anxiety that like you had me nearly throwing up. But it can. It takes a lot of work and isn't a quick fix but some of the grounding techniques and breathing exercises can absolutely help when the panicked feelings start.

CBT- gp can refer.
Set aside time at the beginning or end of the day, journal. What has been positive about your day. Also set aside a time to worry, then the test of the day try to set aside those worried knowing you woll have that time later.
Breathing exercises- box breathing
Headspace- app which is really good

Thank you for advice and thanks for bumping.

Ive just got some decisions to make and wait for outcomes but even though I think I know what decision im going to make I don't know if it will be a good outcome for me!! This is what is giving me anxiety!!!

I tried doing a journal before when I was losing weight but it wasnt for me. Im happy to give it another go!

The only other timeI've had anxiety this bad was when I was going through the menopause and that came on randomly!!!

I find low dosage propranolol - 10mg- when I'm particularly anxious very helpful.

londongirl12 · 28/09/2025 09:56

I’m no expert whatsoever, but would it help writing it down and getting it all out of your head? Write down all the options of decisions and what the outcomes will be. Look at what you can influence and what you can’t. Sometimes I feel I have too much in my head and need to get it out!

You mentioned going through the menopause. Does this mean you are a little older? This anxiety can often be as a result of being post menopausal. Women can lose their confidence with things like driving, flying, making decisions. etc Make sure you have good sleep hygiene, eat healthily, and keep away from negative people and stressful situations if you can make that choice. The world nowadays is full of a lot of cr*p and if you can sift out the meaningful stuff, it can make a big difference. Follow the sound of your own drum beat if you can.

Im 60. Every other decision ive had to make im still confident.
I m still travelling abroad to nrw countries solo, ive done 4 this year alone.

I wild camped three weeks ago alone, ive taken on some walking and cycling challenges, all no problem.
Its just this one massive thing thats looming and wondering if Im doing the right thing.
Dh is supportive and says its up to me what I want to do and as long as im happy!

Can you tell us the decisions and you can get more perspectives?

Its work related. There is so much going on that I dont really want to go into the ins and outs because I know at least 5 people in my team are on mn!!

I really don't want to sound obtuse but I havent discussed the issue with anyone apart from Dh.

Its around leaving a job after 40 years that I love but is changing negatively or staying for 4 more years just to ride it out or take on another job but at a lower grade in a similar field for a lot less money and a lot less stress but the commute is longer.

Theres much more to it but that is the bare bones.

Move your body as much as you can. It has a physiological effect to calm anxiety. Even if it's just shaking your arms and legs, there are some stress bust type videos out there, that don't involve full gym kit. I have had anxiety for years. It's awful. But I can say that works. Also try some herbal teas. Strong chamomile is good.
