Road Traffic Accident: other party weirdness

Letsformanallegiance · 28/09/2025 02:40

I recently had an RTA and it was my fault. I’m very ashamed and embarrassed by my mistake which apparently is a common one.

Everything is going through insurance. But the occupants of the other car keep watching my stories on social media. We’ve not had any contact otherwise.

I feel unsettled by this. I run businesses and they looking at both my personal and business accounts.

Is this just normal curiosity? I’ve blocked them both now as I can’t see any reason why they’d need to be having oversight of my life.

Is this normal? I’m open to the idea that is is, kinda of. But I’m perturbed.

Weird behaviour but I don’t have my social media open to public view

Darragon · 28/09/2025 02:52

When you say they keep doing it, how long has it been going on for? It seems weird on the surface but if you have a really strong social media presence, could it be that they’re really interested in your business, independent of the RTA, and that they want to follow you?

GaryLurcher19 · 28/09/2025 03:09

Might it be the case that this RTC introduced them to your Instagram? Could it be that they just like it?

GaryLurcher19 · 28/09/2025 03:15

Also, they may just be watching* you until matters are legally and financially settled. I'm not suggesting that you're untrustworthy, OP. But these people don't know you.

*not unwise

TappyGilmore · 28/09/2025 03:17

It depends on what you mean by “keep watching”. About two years ago, I was unfortunate enough to have two accidents in a really short space of time - the first not my fault, the second was. Of course I checked out the other parties on social media as soon as I had their names. I don’t think that’s unusual.

CalzoneOnLegs · 28/09/2025 04:05

How do you know they are watching you ?

How do you know they are watching you ?

Lots of platforms tell you who has watched your story.

Colleen Rooney used this feature on Insta to catch out Rebecca Vardy’s account. (Wagatha Christie case)

Why isn’t your profile private?

CalzoneOnLegs · 28/09/2025 11:57

@Snorlaxo thanks I’m assuming that’s Instagram, I don’t use it so assume also that you need to be signed in to use it, therefore people can see who has been watching them.

was that question aimed at me ?

She means they’re looking at the OP’s Instagram stories- you can see what accounts view them

LittleYellowQueen · 28/09/2025 12:02

What were the circumstances of the incident? Any chance it was crash for cash?

HÆLTHEPAIN · 28/09/2025 12:04

People asking why their profiles are not private…obviously the personal one could be but not the business accounts! And they would still be looking, which is still unsettling.

Greggsit · 28/09/2025 12:27

If someone crashed into me, I'd almost certainly be looking to see what sort of person they are.

And you can't have public profiles and then complain that people are viewing them, that's ridiculous.

AhBiscuits · 28/09/2025 12:46

My friend was involved in an accident. The other party was clearly 100% at fault. She kept an eye on his social media. When he then tried to blame her, she was able to use these posts to show he was lying about his "injury".

Letsformanallegiance · 28/09/2025 12:48

Thanks everyone. I did wonder if it’s normal natural curiosity or something more. The accident was totally my fault and I did apologise at the time, profusely, but I was also in shock so didn’t really say much other than sorry.

My business is in a very very specific niche which on the surface wouldn’t typically appeal to this couple. I know I’m generalising but I know my typical client type and they aren’t it. Not in a bad way, it’s hard to explain but I’m being a bit discrete as it’s outing.

Its FB and IG stories so you can see who looks at them.

warmapplepies · 28/09/2025 12:49

They're probably looking to see if you've posted anything about the accident that may help their case or that they can pass to their insurers.

Oh this makes more sense to me. I wasn’t injured and haven’t made a claim on that basis, but it only happened a couple of weeks ago so still going through insurance. I think it might be this, as they both have put in injury claims.

Lesson learned for me, I am mortified I did this and might be a little over sensitive.

No I won’t be posting a single word about it. Too embarrassed 🙈

What were you looking for; was there something you expected to see?

PurpleChrayn · 28/09/2025 12:59

Block them?

TrimayrAcademy · 28/09/2025 13:08

They could just be a bit nosy. Once you have looked at someone, does their account keep coming up on your feed?

Curious what the mistake was OP? I made a terrible driving mistake and cut someone up, narrowly avoiding a crash and they were so angry with me, rightly so. I was following the sat nav to a new place and realised I was about to miss the exit. I learnt a tough lesson to continue on next time.
