Just had a letter from the school my DS is starting in Sept with some visiting dates! Can't believe he's going to school!

Ah its always a big thing. Is he your PFB? My second is starting in September and I'm going to push him thruogh the door and run like hell

posieparker · 03/06/2008 13:11

Think about how exciting it will be for him and save the tears for after the first visit! I coped by thinking about the joy and love he'll have for learning and making friends, and I had another at home and another on the way and so the trauma wasn't soooooo bad!

Bunch · 03/06/2008 13:12

No! I have a DD age 8! I was ok with her but he medically has to be my last so it feels like a huge phase is over!!

I cried when I got the letter from the local authority saying I had to apply for a place .

DS1 had only just turned 3 and was so little though!

Bunch · 03/06/2008 13:14

My pfb (and only) is going to school in September. Every time I think about it I well up.

Last year I lurked on a couple of threads like this and thought "ffs you jessies get over yourselves". I am now convinced I am going to be such a wreck on the day that I will have to be blue lighted to A&E

We have a taster session in a couple of weeks - I'm now convinced that they are more for the parents to get used to the idea than the children.

MamaG · 03/06/2008 13:16

Bunch I've got an 8 year old DD too but I'm pg so maybe thats why I'm not in floods over DS going

TigerFeet · 03/06/2008 13:16

[sniffs]

[wipes tear from eye]

Bunch · 03/06/2008 13:16

Glad I'm not the only one!! Don't think my DH gets it!

Ah, it's tough. At our school there was a coffee morning for the parents the day they started for teary parents!! Just make sure you have the best summer and plan fabulous weekends.

Bunch · 03/06/2008 13:17

Blimey. I couldn't wait for school to start. I counted down the seconds until they were going full time.

cheesesarnie · 03/06/2008 13:21

yabu.

foxythesnowfox · 03/06/2008 13:21

Crikey, you are not being unreasonable! I got a lump in my throat when I got the letter for DD1 (DC3). I will miss our time together. I'll be a blubbering wreck when DD2 goes. Infact, I might not send her. Just tie those apron strings a wee bit tighter.

cheesesarnie · 03/06/2008 13:21

no i mean yanbu !

MargaretMountford · 03/06/2008 13:25

wait until he has to go to secondary school in Sept !! (I shall be very tearful) I used to find every year quite a wrench, thinking sadly that he is no longer in Reception,yr 1.yr 2 etc and when he went into yr 3 I left the playground weeping (and I'm very controlled person !)..it's grieving for the loss of that time with your child, or your child being at that particular age - it happens to most of us,no matter how many children you have - I used to think it was just me having the one ds.

TigerFeet · 03/06/2008 13:30

Thing is, I work full time and dd goes to nursery. When she goes to school I am dropping my hours (dh promoted recently, less childcare costs mean I can work less) and I will actually see far more of her. But I am still utterly traumatised over the whole thing. It's a rite of passage isn't it? Out of baby/toddlerhood into big children.

oldnewmummy · 03/06/2008 13:37

DS is 17 months and I was getting emotional just buying his first pair of "proper" sandals (i.e. not leather bootees). My wee boy is growing up.

Love2bake · 03/06/2008 14:05

IKWYM .. my youngest DS is starting in Sept too, but I am really excited for him as he can't wait.

Bet I will cry on 1st day of term though.

allgonebellyup · 03/06/2008 21:40

i also have a dd who is 8, and i wasnt sad when she started school.
but i will cry my heart out when ds starts in september, he will be my last ever child, and i have already lost his dad to someone else, it will be so sad

sweetkitty · 03/06/2008 21:43

I can't even think about my PFB starting school NEXT August.

My second born is staying a whole 2 1/2 hours at nursery by herself tomorrow for the first time, both DDs at nursery I think I will go home and cry.

PeedOffandPg · 03/06/2008 21:47

I saw my friend go through this way before I got pg, it had never occured to me before it would be difficult for the Mum when LO started school, I just thought she'd be jubilant at having extra time to herself.

DD is only little so thankfully i have years to prepare myself.
