Local park, food festival today.
15 pounds for a wrap.
Worst price I've ever seen .🙄

That is excessive. Unless it was an oyster, wagyu beef and caviar wrap!

AutumnCosy2025 · 27/09/2025 17:17

Oh well, I hope you feel better for having got it off your chest.

MintTwirl · 27/09/2025 17:17

Events like that are always expensive. What was in the wrap?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2025 17:18

I suspect they think captive audience = licence to charge like a wounded bull, @Netcurtainnelly.

LifeBeginsToday · 27/09/2025 17:19

Take your own picnic. It's hardly news that food in a park cafe is expensive.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/09/2025 17:19

I hope it was a magical wrap, that filled you for a few days.
That's extortion.

Netcurtainnelly · 27/09/2025 17:19

Jamaican Foodstall.

I did, I'm not stupid enough to buy.

YABU to go to a 'food festival' and expect the food to be reasonable. It will always be a complete rip off.

Let me guess

Olive stalls
Turkish delight stalls
Olive oil with olive wood chopping board stalls
Trinkets
Chocolate stalls
Liquer stalls (that will sit in the back of your cupboard for evermore)
Cheese stalls
Home made soap stalls
Beer tent
Street food vendors
Flavoured nut stalls
Chutneys and jams

I saw you coming.

Wtf you mean, I saw you coming.
Just saying it's the worst price I've ever seen.
I know they are a rip off, but that was bad.

Canterbury?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/09/2025 17:26

“I saw you coming” is a phrase that means the cynical vendors saw the buyers coming and charged over the odds, @Netcurtainnelly - I don’t think @soupyspoon was saying she specifically saw you coming.

Its from a Harry Enfield skit, dont you know it?

WilfredsPies · 27/09/2025 17:33

It’s always going to be expensive though. It’s a food festival. People go to them with the expectation that they’re going to see something that looks delicious and they’re going to pay three times the price for it. It’s the food equivalent of service stations for petrol. If you went to their premises, or ordered from them via Just Eat, etc, it would have been half the price.

I remember taking DH to London for the first time and being on a bus taking us towards Kensington when he saw a sign outside a bar for a lobster sandwich for £25. He was outraged and remarked that it had better come sandwiched between two £10 notes 😄

Arrrrrrragghhh · 27/09/2025 17:36

Are you sure it wasn’t a flatbread. Our local bijou van sells flatbreads at £14. Delicious but I am sadly not their target market at that price.

To be fair it's not 1993
A lot of people don't know Harry Enfield.

OhTheProblemIsDefinitelyMe · 27/09/2025 17:41

I saw the owner of a food truck post on TikTok after going to one of these festivals. She announced her takings, but then did a break down of costs for the pitch, the fuel to get there, the insurance, ingredients etc. her day started at 5am and her takings seemed reasonable.

She actually l came out at a loss of over £40 for something like a 15 hour day. The cost of the pitch was hundreds. But no, I wouldn’t pay those prices. One visit to a food festival was enough, I’d never go again.

Strawberrryfields · 27/09/2025 17:46

It’s not cheap but you have to manage your expectations at a food festival, they’re always a bit more than normal. Was it nice? Filling? Did it come with a side? In a lot of places you’d pay £15 for a burger and fries at a bar so not that different. Everything so expensive these days!

What did you actually do at the food festival? Did you pay to get in? Why not just take your picnic and sit in the park instead?

What do you feel would have been a reasonable price to charge?

I didn't say you couldn't 🙇🏻‍♀️

but what the fuck is the point in going to a FOOD FESTIVAL if you're going to take a picnic?

TheSpiritofDarkandLonelyWater · 27/09/2025 21:11

It is an event. They have extra costs.
