New job. How to deal with this

I previously worked in a secondary school office. A job advertisement came out for an office role in my Dsons primary school. I applied for it as I thought it would be a good fit, it also means I don’t have to commute any further to work. And I know the school already. However, since starting, quite a few of the mums I know have started being off with me. One I even said hello to on the school run. And she blanked me. Aibu to feel a bit awkward now and to ask how to deal with it? I’m enjoying it and I’m glad I made the move but I’m not sure why they are acting this way.

I suppose it's because you are staff now, not just another school mum? No more gossipy chats for you I'm afraid. I would just keep saying hello and being friendly and I'm sure it will all settle down a bit. Glad you are loving the job!

You have moved to the dark side now OP. Just ignore silly people like that lady that cannot even say hello. You will have to be a like a politician now and get really good at side stepping awkward questions as some parents will feel you are in the know.
My top tips is to say neutral, never comment to another person anything about a teacher or another child even to friends if they have kids at that school.
Never carry news out of school to your local community. Enjoy your jobs and the benefits that it gives your family like the same holidays as your son.

I worked in a school that had a few staff members with dc in the school. It was awkward in the playground and staff room if any of the children had been involved in any kind of incident and we all had to be very neutral and discreet.

Discretion, discretion, discretion. Oh, and don't worry about the other mums. You are no longer one of them in their eyes.

Do you really want to be "one of them?"

The mums who turn up at the last possible minute, grab their kid and get out fast have the right idea to escape the bitchy hellscape of the school gate.
