Bought house but they’re still in it now!

So we exchanged contracts last week and completed by 10am today. We vacated our house by 12.30pm as our buyers keen to get in and contract said 2pm. The house we bought was supposed to be ready 2pm but it’s still
not ready! Now the seller (house we now own!) is saying they’re going to struggle to empty it by 8pm! And that sounds optimistic. They just don’t sound like they packed up properly. Anything we can do? Solicitor and estate agents shut.
We have put most of our stuff in storage - which is shut. We have though thankfully hired medium van which has our essential stuff in it. But we just want to unpack it now. We have 2 kids and have been at a bowling alley and kfc trying to kill time since school.
Would we be unreasonable to demand we move in 8pm?

Im glad you moved in and that you got some good advice, especially from the legal people.

On the other hand, the people foaming at the mouth and exhorting you to chuck their stuff in the streets or to damage it are total idiots. Obviously the vendors were completely in the wrong, that’s without question, but that wouldn’t have helped one bit. Mind you, people are much better at coming on social media and exhorting others to aggressive behaviour than carrying it out themselves, so there’s that!

Moving is upsetting. People get upset.
Amazing how relevant this movie, after 40 years. If you have not seen the whole movie, do yourself a favour and get the DVD

(It looks as if MN blocks hypertext links - but I trust you get the picture)

On the other hand, it's so hard. Once when I was supposed to be out and wasn't, my buyers actually loaded their car up and helped me move. They drove my stuff to my new house, on the other side of town.

Surely doing it last minute makes it much harder than just doing a bit every day?

You do realise you made your buyers lives significantly harder by being so utterly useless. As if they didn't have enough stress on moving in day to be packing up the seller and chauffeuring her across town, ffs.

You are so not being unreasonable @ItsOnlyRainFFS

The contract is quite clear that you need to fully vacate the property before completion. If they weren't ready to vacate they shouldn't have completed - and then they would have had to pay damages to you (it's all in the contract)

Utterly maddening that the contractual position is quite clear yet some conveyancers don't even check their client has vacated before completing
