I have a stinking cold and am home alone for the night as all the family are away, so thankfully have no witnesses to my dripping snot and huffing and puffing. Have no appetite and can't be bothered cooking - is gin and fresh orange and Pringles an acceptable dinner in these circumstances or am I just a degenerate waster? (full disclosure - despite said stinking cold am robust enough to be told I am Bad and Wrong, and will survive without your validation)

Full of vit C, good choice!

Errolwasahero · 25/09/2025 20:07

Sounds perfect. All the food groups, (more or less); and isn’t it ‘feed a cold, starve a fever? Get them Pringles et!

Theunamedcat · 25/09/2025 20:08

Are you taking paracetamol or sudafed?

Nope, did earlier for work but am now free from responsibilities. That is what the gin is replacing (more effective for pain relief, if not for professionalism).

I think gin would work with lemon and honey (I usually use whisky or brandy) which is definitely medicinal. A couple of cloves and some ginger would add to the gin bouquet.

That is lovely and probably a good idea but too wintery - after a nice sunny day am still clinging on to the last dregs of summer and hot toddies would break the spell.

No judgement but maybe make it a Pringle sandwich to introduce some complex carbs?

Arlanymor · 25/09/2025 20:24

Not acceptable - you are missing some kind of sugar component really - otherwise it’s not a balanced ‘meal’. Can you muster up some Maltesers from somewhere, or a few squares of chocolate? (Get well soon btw).

hadjustaboutenough · 25/09/2025 20:29

Eat whatever you feel like eating, especially as you're ill. Anything that tempts your appetite is fair game.

Jespie · 25/09/2025 20:35

Agree with Werp, you need to make a Pringle sandwich.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 25/09/2025 20:38

You need electrolytes - so as well as the salt from the pringles, you need to add some sugar!

Icanttakethisanymore · 25/09/2025 20:42

Sorry OP but alcohol is a disaster for your immune system ☹️ Pringles and OJ (no gin) would be better for the cold. Hope you feel better soon!

FuzzyWolf · 25/09/2025 20:51

Enjoy your gin, orange and Pringles. Hope you feel better soon.

Foundationns · 25/09/2025 21:36

Sounds delicious, I want some now and haven't even got a cold. Get well soon.

flippyflopss · 25/09/2025 21:37

MrsApplepants · 25/09/2025 21:37

Sounds perfectly fine to me

MousseMousse · 25/09/2025 21:39

God that sounds amazing.

I also have a stinking cold and now I want fresh oranges, pringles & gin

Cinaferna · 25/09/2025 21:40

Orange - good - Vit C
Pringles - good - blowing your nose a lot depletes the body of salt
Gin - not so sure. Maybe a hot toddy?

Gin is an old cure for malaria and a stinking cold has to be at least as bad as that, right?
