To think it’s selfish having a vehicle this big if you don’t actually have the space for it?

I live in a cul de sac, and one of my neighbours has bought a large motor home and dumped it on the street. They do have a driveway, but it’s too small and they park their car there too. They’ve parked it right on the corner creating a total blind spot, so you have to creep around slowly to check if anyone is coming from the other direction. I’m not talking about a caravan here, it’s one of those massive American style motor homes! It also takes up a lot of space compared to regular cars, so now other people can’t park there. I’m all for live and let live, but am I being unreasonable to think this is selfish?

Diagram is rubbish sorry, but the motor home is highlighted in blue.

You've asked them to move it away from the corner?

They haven't really 'dumped' it in the street, they've just parked it there.

But as long as it's legally parked, I'd just ask if they can park it away from corner a bit.

I don't know how it works in the UK - is it legal for them to park it there ?

If it is, you should let it go as there's nothing else to do.

If it isn't, the first step would be to inform neighbours and give them a chance to remove it before taking further action.

You could check with your council to see if they are breaking any bylaws

Platypusdiver · 24/09/2025 21:39

I agree with you. Out of order to park it there. And very annoying to have such a large vehicle in a cup de sac. But if its legal, there is probably nothing you can do. Part and parcel of having neighbours.

Shadowfacs · 24/09/2025 21:41

It looks to me like it's parked on the pavement which might attract a fine in your area.
Otherwise AFAIK it's legal to be parked on the public highway as long as no-one is living in it.

leglesssss · 24/09/2025 21:42

I'm not familiar with parking laws. I probably wouldn't have such a large vehicle if I didn't have a proper place to park it, but I understand that not everyone shares that perspective. Tbh, I'm not really bothered about its presence if it’s legal (regardless of the thread title), but more about the way it's parked. There’s zero visibility now and it wouldn't surprise me if there’s an accident soon. It seems like common sense has just totally disappeared!

It's parked partly on the pavement and partly on the road. Luckily, there's still enough space for pedestrians, wheelchair users etc

Do you think it will always be there? I know people who do pay for these to be stored elsewhere then bring them home for a few nights before their trip. They’ll be lucky if it doesn’t get stolen.

It may be causing damage.
Anyway, YANBU, it’s selfish of them.
