My dad was rushed to hospital feeling faint and shivering , he had a temp of nearly 40.
they were checking him for blood clot.
turned out he’s got a chest infection and his bloods were up.
he had one day of iv antibiotics then sent on his way with oral antibiotics. Do they do this????? I’m worried as my dad still seems poorly but there’s no beds :(
he’s got to come back Sunday for
more bloods

Much safer to recuperate at home with medication, than to stay in hospital where he could acquire other infections. Also a more conducive environment to recover in - his own bed, his usual environment. If you're worried about him are you able to visit a bit more frequently or stay over with him a few nights? Or could someone else? Sounds like they are doing their best for him with the follow up at the weekend. I hope he gets well soon.

The drugs in the drip and orally are the same, just a different dose and route of administration.

He is being treated for the infection and as long as he isn't needing oxygen and can be cared for at home he is better off in his own environment, away from the multiple other infectious illnesses there will be in a hospital ward and comfortable with his own things, food and drinks on tap etc. Being in hospital often means sleep deprivation,.unfamiliar and un tempting food and drink. Older people generally dare better and receiver quicker if they can stay at home.

staying in the hospital would be a waste of time, really. He would be vulnerable to other infections present, and it is well known that in the hospital, you cannot rest. At least at home, he can rest in his own bed or perhaps on the sofa so he can watch TV, etc. if he needs more help than you can give maybe he may need home carer for a while. perhaps ask your GP

That's normal. It's much better recuperating at home in your own bed than in a noisy hospital where you get no sleep.

If they thought he needed intravenous antibiotics or close monitoring for longer they would have kept him.
