Let me say at the outset that I don't kill people I disagree with, I don't encourage other people to kill people they disagree with, and I don't in my heart of hearts believe that it is right to kill people that you disagree with. I have also experienced the gut wrenching finality of a violent death. I would not wish it upon anyone, and I send a wish out on the universe that all beings who are suffering from the grief of loss may find ease and comfort.
However, can I also say that events do not ensue in a vacuum and that everybody, whether they are the tragic victim of a murder or whether they are allowed to die in their bed at the age of 100, needs to search their conscience and thoroughly educate themselves before preaching messages that can have an extremely wide impact on vulnerable people.
In the last few days, for me personally, consuming the media around Charlie Kirk's murder has done nothing to make me a better person. But this did. By the end of it, I was completely and utterly floored. I thought about it at regular intervals during the rest of the day and I believe and hope it has really impacted me in how I approach forgiveness, both with regard to my past and hopefully in my future. I hope it does the same for some of you.
