Applying for jobs is a living hell!?

I'm in the fortunate position that I don't need a new job, I just want a new job as I'm bored.

The application process has become a living hell!

One example - I saw a role of potential interest advertised on LinkedIn.

I need more information about the role, salary and expectations around hybrid before I apply.

No problem, I'll visit the company website. I did that, followed the 'Careers' link, 'Find roles' link, and it takes me straight back to the same LinkedIn page!

No problem, I'll message the company recruiter on LinkedIn, but it turns out he's set up so it's only possible to contact him if you have LinkedIn Premium, which I don't have.

No problem, I'll call the company and ask for his email address. But the company doesn't advertise a phone number and instead has a generic 'Enquiry form' to fill in and submit. It's a global company, so let's face it, there's not a chance in hell of anyone responding to me.

So I can't proceed.

And it's the same with every role.

A number are advertising roles which were filled 6 months ago, and the ad hasn't been taken down.

Even recruitment agencies have now been replaced with shitty online bucket sites, so you can't discuss a role with a human being.

I don't want to apply to be told they're paying 30% less than I'm on now, and need me in their office in Timbuktu 5 days a week.

I've pretty much resigned myself to plan B of remaining in my boring current role and coasting for the foreseeable future.

Is it just me, or is it truly this awful?

Unfortunately, it's only going to get worse. Add to that the ageism that is rife out there, not sure where we're going to end up.

I think you should apply. That is what they want you to do. Just grit your teeth and go with their process.

I was made redundant last year and at 61, thought job search would be tedious and ultimately unsuccessful.

Instead, I have three roles at second interview stage within a couple of weeks. I went through LinkedIn, Indeed, Total jobs, and the local newspaper. Good luck.

Drive me mad OP when you are expected to apply for a job without knowing any of those basic things.

I have no faith in the "upload CV to LinkedIn" either - so often you hear nothing at all.

But why would I apply if I don't even know a ball park salary? It takes time to tailor a CV and covering letter. I want to know what role I'm applying for!

YANBU. If you can't give me salary details, tell me whether I'm expected to be in the office all the time, a detailed description of the role and make applying difficult, then I'm out.

Yes I've given up on two businesses today, which I've emailed and called and haven't had any response. It suggests a scatty and disorganised culture and I'd rather stay put.

Do you know the recruiters name? If you put @followed immediately by the company domain e.g “@widgets.com” then it often brings up the email of someone there and then you know the format of the email. If not you can try [email protected], [email protected] etc. doesn’t take more than a few mins to try the various email combos and see if it gets through.

Because salary may be commensurate with experience. Some skills are in such short supply that companies will look at a variety of levels and pay accordingly.

Also if they say the salary level is over a certain amount, they get inundated with people wanting to be sponsored for a visa.

My latest job, they didn't publish a salary. I told them what I would accept and they offered 2k below, which given it is only a 7 minute commute and higher than my last role, I accepted.

Be thankful you’re not unemployed (made redundant a month ago).
I’m giving myself a few days off applying as it’s so soul destroying.
To not even reply to a candidate who has spent a day or more applying for a job is really shitty.

I also see retail roles listed as part time. No clue as to whether it's 4 hours or 24, just "part time".
