To object to paying 50p extra for a "large" cup of herbal tea, when all I'm getting is a weeny bit more hot water?

I probably am, because the menu was on the counter, so perhaps instead of allowing the "selling up" I should have picked up the menu and queried the price.

BUT
Regular latte: 1.20
Large latte: 1.55

Regular herbal tea: 1.10
Large herbal tea: 1.60

WTF?

where was this?

Flashman · 02/06/2008 22:09

Totally it is a free market - you don't have to have it - if you don't want to pay the money then don't.

hana · 02/06/2008 22:10

the cup is bigger though so you're paying for that

HighHorse · 02/06/2008 22:12

I know where you're coming from Flashman, but I just find the pricing sooooo ludicruous and would have appreciated some acknowledgement of such from the bolshy staff. 35p extra for extra latte versus 50p for hot water?

I didn't pick up the menu when she said, "Large?" as I wasn't expecting to be ripped off! If I'd known the price diff, I'd have had a regular, which isn't that much smaller anyway.

Hana - yes, I'd happily pay a bit more but check out the post I've just done - now, that's crazy, non?

OP posts:
hana · 02/06/2008 22:14

they just pull theh prices out of the air really don't they?

HighHorse · 02/06/2008 22:15

Cupsoftea - I'm not out to "out" the place, I will be happy in the knowledge that it will be permanently "Geoffed" by me from now onwards. But it's a small local caff, nothing spectacular - just handy in today's situation.

well just walk away regardless then even if they have poured it - what are they going to do? You have not stolen anything.

HighHorse · 02/06/2008 22:18

Califrau - yeah, if I'd studied the menu first, of course I'd have done that.

As for walking out, I'm trying my very bestest not to be as bolshy myself - esp in front of my DC. Also, I am technically at fault, aren't I?

OP posts:
Flashman · 02/06/2008 22:24

Well no I don't think so - and I think it would show DC an important life lesson - don't get pissed on.

And I am not sure if you are a fault - if the price was not clearly displayed and they offered you a price - I think stick it up your arse counts as a counter offer

No price mentioned at all. It's years since I ordered a herbal tea - just asked for one, and was asked if I wanted a large one (oo-er missus!). Stupidly accepted - the one thing I usually won't do on principle!

And yes, some prices on the wall would have been useful. Considering her attitude, I wish I had told her where to stick it

FFS, I thought having a herbal tea would do me GOOD!

Flashman · 02/06/2008 22:41

Go back there again and order a large hot water and bring your own herbal tea bag. Small victories I say.

Ledodgy · 02/06/2008 22:44

Well on the same lines I pay £12.50 a month to swim as much as I want in our local pool. I have to take £1.20 each time for the 'deposit' on my locker but only get £1 back each time!

HighHorse · 03/06/2008 13:35

Ledodgy - ours is the same. Wouldn't be so bad if the machines and lockers were always in proper working order!

OP posts:
HighHorse · 03/06/2008 13:36

Flashman - you kidding? Given how stoopid they are (considering the pricing), they'd charge me £1.80 for a hot water!!!!

OP posts:
cheesesarnie · 03/06/2008 13:37

ask for cup of boiling water and take your own tea bags.

ThinWhiteDuchess · 03/06/2008 13:55

Would you believe that the company I work(ed) for actually charges for hot water -- think it's about 15p now. So, you buy your own tea bags and have to pay 15 bloody pence to be able to have a drink. Outrageous imo and why I never bothered taking tea bags to work with me.

cheesesarnie · 03/06/2008 13:58

flask?

it is very silly.

theBOD · 03/06/2008 14:04

so you ordered something in a shop where the menu clearly marked the price and think they are being unreasonable to expect you to pay the clearly marked price?

Flashman · 03/06/2008 14:08

ThinWhiteDuchess - now that is shocking -

Flashman · 03/06/2008 14:09

The bod - if you read you would see that the price was not clearly marked

theBOD · 03/06/2008 14:10

i have read it. the menu was freely available with the price of a large tea on it.how is that not clearly marked?

Flashman · 03/06/2008 14:30

I drew from that the price was not clear.
