To object to paying 50p extra for a "large" cup of herbal tea, when all I'm getting is a weeny bit more hot water?

I probably am, because the menu was on the counter, so perhaps instead of allowing the "selling up" I should have picked up the menu and queried the price.

BUT
Regular latte: 1.20
Large latte: 1.55

Regular herbal tea: 1.10
Large herbal tea: 1.60

WTF?

Totally it is a free market - you don't have to have it - if you don't want to pay the money then don't.

I know where you're coming from Flashman, but I just find the pricing sooooo ludicruous and would have appreciated some acknowledgement of such from the bolshy staff. 35p extra for extra latte versus 50p for hot water?

I didn't pick up the menu when she said, "Large?" as I wasn't expecting to be ripped off! If I'd known the price diff, I'd have had a regular, which isn't that much smaller anyway.

Cupsoftea - I'm not out to "out" the place, I will be happy in the knowledge that it will be permanently "Geoffed" by me from now onwards. But it's a small local caff, nothing spectacular - just handy in today's situation.

well just walk away regardless then even if they have poured it - what are they going to do? You have not stolen anything.

Califrau - yeah, if I'd studied the menu first, of course I'd have done that.

As for walking out, I'm trying my very bestest not to be as bolshy myself - esp in front of my DC. Also, I am technically at fault, aren't I?

Well no I don't think so - and I think it would show DC an important life lesson - don't get pissed on.

And I am not sure if you are a fault - if the price was not clearly displayed and they offered you a price - I think stick it up your arse counts as a counter offer

No price mentioned at all. It's years since I ordered a herbal tea - just asked for one, and was asked if I wanted a large one (oo-er missus!). Stupidly accepted - the one thing I usually won't do on principle!

And yes, some prices on the wall would have been useful. Considering her attitude, I wish I had told her where to stick it

FFS, I thought having a herbal tea would do me GOOD!

Go back there again and order a large hot water and bring your own herbal tea bag. Small victories I say.

Well on the same lines I pay £12.50 a month to swim as much as I want in our local pool. I have to take £1.20 each time for the 'deposit' on my locker but only get £1 back each time!

Would you believe that the company I work(ed) for actually charges for hot water -- think it's about 15p now. So, you buy your own tea bags and have to pay 15 bloody pence to be able to have a drink. Outrageous imo and why I never bothered taking tea bags to work with me.
