To wonder about a&e alternatives and when its quietest

A private GP service have said my symptoms should be assessed f2f and I may need an abdominal xray. They are concerned about a partial bowel obstruction my NHS GP is suggesting an appointment in 2 weeks.

while I vommitwhen Ui eat and my stomach is bloated and hard I feel quite well and can’t face A&E. Anyone know when its likely to be quietest or if anywhere else wghere could get abdomon examined, urine dipped and xray if needed?a To wonder if the is a service better than A&E and if A&E is place to go when it will be quietest

Hey OP, how are you?

Frolie · 23/09/2025 23:30

Hi OP, hope you managed to get a CT?

Eatinghurts · 24/09/2025 06:35

Thanks all was exausted when I got in. They said it was constipation. However, I think I did need to be seen as the IV meds did seem to stop the vomitting which allowed me to drink water which in turn has helped move things along.

Do you have an Urgent Treatment Centre? They have been great every time I have used them and they will send you to A&E if them think it is necessary ( have used them 3 times, once for my elderly dad, for my daughter with concussion and me when I broke my foot)

@Squibblenutssaddly not in an area with the app.

@dollyblue01@Yellowrose225588any sense of if a walk in would assess this? I feel a fraud going to A&E when feeling reasonably ok just verry bloated, vomit when eat and a pain pressure sensation. I am in a new arrea and cant find what services local utc have.

No, this is not appropriate for a walk-in centre, or 111, your GP has advised you. Why isn't your GP referring you to the surgeons/surgical emergency assessment unit

Re A&E - before the masses wake up so around 6am and def not at a weekend. Means you get some sleep as well. Nothing worse than rocking up when you haven’t slept.
