Fitness tracker

My daughter is turning 8 soon and has asked for a watch that counts her steps for her birthday. We have gotten into park run and she would like to see how much steps she is doing. I feel on the fence about it as I don't want her to become obsessive with steps and fitness. She is quite academic and asks a lot of questions like I did as a kid. I struggled with body image, became obsessive with calorie counting when younger and still a bit (but very intentionally speak positively about body image, strength etc. infront of my dd). Obviously if i was to get her one it would be super basic and a kids one. But im wondering if im thinking too much into this because of the struggles ive had growing up or if others agree to be unsure about a fitness tracker at this age? Not sure how to explain it to her if I dont, except from just saying too young

I wouldn't get one for her. She doesn't need it, she knows how long the park run is. Feels like a slippery slope.

It's just a gadget.
I would be reluctant to spend the money, might say "well if you want to spend your pocket money on that"

Thank you for commenting!

@Springadorablethat is what I am worried about, that it could be a slippery slope

@lljkkI was looking at one around £20 if I were to get one for her

I think a pedometer without calorie tracker or more weight focused functions would be a good learning tool. There is nothing wrong with encouraging movement.

She'll look after it better if she pays for it out of her own pocket money.
