I know this isn’t really AIBU but feeling a bit desperate. I am having my worst ever migraine. Fourth day now and each day getting worse. Feel like I have flu, with electric shocks, feeling like my limbs are not in control, and extreme dizziness and nausea. What on earth can I do? I have to go to work on today! Sumatriptan don’t work and I feel may have made things worse. I’m in despair.

Ring 111, it's a 24 hour service.

cyrkus · 22/09/2025 00:16

Thank you so much for replying. I did do the online thing and they said go to your gp. Not possible now.

Also, you don't have to go to work. You can't go, you aren't fit to go.

cyrkus · 22/09/2025 00:17

There are out of hours walk in clinics and A and E if necessary.
Ring them back and speak to an advisor.
I hope things settle for you but it can take a few days to recover.
Do you have anyone with you,?

Aww sorry to hear this, but these things happen. Your college will have contingency plans in place.

cyrkus · 22/09/2025 00:22

Thank you so much. I will ring 111

If this is not your usual migraine I suggest seeing a Dr. ASAP perhaps even A&E. It sounds like a cluster and I once had a shocker of one but only once. You can take a further sumatriptan re: dosage instructions. You are not fit for work so send an email/text and forget about it. No one is indispensable. Drink loads of water.

LoafofSellotape · 22/09/2025 00:22

Another one saying you need medical advice. You poor thing x

Crispynoodle · 22/09/2025 00:25

Ha! Didn’t catch you are a lecturer before I posted! Me too! Finding your cover is above your pay grade. It will be fine. Your students will be fine, even better if you have a VLE. As it happens I’m covering my colleague tomorrow who is also sick. Your Health is your Wealth!

Crispynoodle · 22/09/2025 00:26

Oh and I lecture in healthcare….

cyrkus · 22/09/2025 00:27

I would happily cover for a colleague in similar cords. But somehow feel terrible about letting people down. Maybe I will feel amazingly better in the morning. Praying.

Circs. That should say. But also cords I guess.

If your sure it’s not something that needs medical intervention and it’s just a migraine Migraleave from chemist I’ve had them for years they are the only thing that can stop me being sick it may take 2 doses obviously 4 hours between them drink water close curtains and put phone down try to stay still and sleep if possible. Hope you feel better soon.

cyrkus · 23/09/2025 20:50

Thanks @cocog unfortunately migraleave make me really sick.

If you've been sick for four days just go to a and e

GoldPoster · 23/09/2025 21:43

If you have your worst ever headache the recommendation is to go to A&E.

I couldn’t face A&E with a migraine. Definitely needs a doctor’s input though.

I take amitriptyline daily to prevent migraines. When I get a bad headache that won’t shift I up the dose for a week and take dihydrocodeine on top, on my doctor’s advice, it does the trick.

You don’t have to suffer OP. No one will expect you to work with a migraine. I’m a teacher so I do understand feeling like you have to drag yourself into work no matter what. What would you think if a colleague took time off with this problem? I bet you’d be a lot more understanding towards them than you’re being towards yourself. Your job is important, but I promise your students won’t fail because you missed a few lessons.
