Hi all

I'm after ideas for family games, ideally ones that are suitable for/will entertain both a 5.5yo & a 12.5yo

We've got monopoly, hungry hippos, taskmaster, kids vs adults trivia and have ordered jumanji and uno. Taskmaster is the current favourite (with swapping out tasks that are beyond the youngest).

On our wishlist is:

Cards against humanity & various similar (families against conformity etc)
What do you meme
Scrabble
Exploding kittens
The six

Open to all suggestions and other ideas for things you do together as a family indoors

Yahtzee, trivial pursuit (family edition until they get a bit older), Who knows where, card games- Black jack, pontoon, 10 carded rummy, Newmarket; Frustration, Cluedo, Risk, Dungeons & Dragons, Scrabble, no board game needed-Cats and Dogs-we like board games :)

Edited to add pictionary and charades, we also do the music clip quizzes on Sporcle-they are great!

We love Labyrinth as it can be played by all ages either working together or against each other! This is our most played game that rarely gets put away.

Mine like Dobble too but it gets rather raucous, although I think that's probably me being too competitive. 😂

Throw throw burrito!
dobble is good with younger kids. CAH do a family version for kids but I’ve not tried it

Seconding Labyrinth.

There is a kids version of Ticket to Ride which DH and I play alone sometimes if we just want a quick game (2 adults can finish in like 20mins but still have a good game).

Carcassone. Maybe not so much for the 5yo but could maybe play with an adult as a team for their turn until they understand it. It's really easy to play and there's expansion versions available.

DS has always liked the "draw it" game where there are cards with categories, and you have to draw whatever the card you pick/category you land on says. Other players guess, against the timer. He's 14 now and still chooses it.
Other favourites have been Sore Losers Monopoly, Game of Life, Any form of the light up pattern, memory games, where you pass them round, and we currently play table tennis tournaments on the dining table, with one of those portable nets (£12 ish).
UNO, 21, and Go Fishing, with deck if cards.
For some reason DS also liked the round word one, where you press the letters down, against the clock, according to card picked eg "things you take on holiday" "capital cities" etc.

I echo a lot of the recommendations on here (Double; Rummikub; Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza; Sushi Go; Sequence; Labyrinth; Exploring Kittens; Ticket to Ride; Herd Mentality). A few more that my lot have enjoyed across age gaps: Simon's Cat; Five Second Rule; Early Bird; Baffled; SlideQuest; Aquarius; Rhino Hero; Bugs in the Kitchen.

Cooperative games also go down well here with different age groups, as they all win or lose together, e.g. Forbidden Island/Desert/Sky; SOS Dino; Ghost Fightin' Treasure Hunters; Outfoxed (bit young for the 12.5yr old though); Concept (kids version); Bank Attack; Zombie Kidz Evolution.

Taco Goat Cheese Pizza
Spot It
Othello - It's a game for 2, but good strategy for 12 year old
Blokus
Five Crowns - little one may need a buddy
Quirkle
Rummikub
5 Second Rule
Spoons

Thanks everyone lots of ideas here!

We do have sequence already too, but eldest isn't interested at all. It's ancient, same one we used to play when I was young! Me and mum still enjoy a few games of sequence when she's round 😊

I’m glad taco, cat, goat, cheese, pizza is getting so much love - it’s in the gift cupboard as a stocking filler. We also have sushi go and happy salmon waiting for Xmas; both bought on recommendations.

we already have exploding kittens

We hate it 🤣 it’s so violent. Everyone ends up injured and crying here!

Love happy salmon and exploding kittens though
