Has 1 weekend away ruined my baby’s sleep?!

DD has just turned 1 - I’ve put a lot of work into her routine & sleep & she’s slept 7-7 for months.

We went away with some friends last weekend and the whole thing was a nightmare in terms of sleep. We timed our journey around her naps but she refused to sleep so we were already majorly down on sleep by the time we arrived.

Then we were in a room next to our friends whose baby is not a good sleeper and screamed all night long which kept disturbing DD.

Since we’ve been back she’s been waking multiple times a night really crying & waking up really early too and not going back down. I’m absolutely exhausted and feel so despondent that we seem to be back at square 1.

I’ve tried to give her more sleep in the day to make up for our weekend away but as that wasn’t helping I’ve gone back to our normal routine but that’s not helped her nighttime sleep either.

Can 1 weekend really have had that much impact ?! Does anyone have any advice on how I can get her back on track ?

No, is the short answer!

Nope. Either you will get her back into a routine (which I would work at with emphasis on night time sleep). OR she was about to change sleep pattern anyway.
Teaching “ self settling” and self entertaining if awake might help.

My DD1 is a bit like this for a few days after going away but she settles down after a couple of days of me just keeping her in her old routine. It’s a couple of restless nights and then back to normal in my experience so just keep doing what you’re doing and pray it’s short lived!

Could she be coming down with something? Or teething?

1 is a really common age for sleep to change. Our baby slept though from 6/7pm for 12 hours from 10 weeks old with a morning and afternoon nap but at 12 months it needed changing and he dropped the morning nap so maybe look at what naps they are taking.

No, it’s not the weekend away. There are always lots of reasons for disturbed sleep at that age - vaccinations, illnesses, teeth, constipation etc.

I’ll caveat this with the fact both of mine have always been awful sleepers (my two year old has a good night if she wakes twice, I haven’t slept more than a 4 hour block in 4 years) but they are definitely worse for a few days after we’ve been away (or the clocks change). Give it a few days and it usually goes back to normal (still shit in our case, but less shit, I hope that’s reassuring 😂😂)
