They should be in bed not out playing with other children at soft play etc.

That’s why I hate soft play- it looks like all the snotty/ sick kids get dumped there instead of being looked after at home.

Glitterballofdreams · 19/09/2025 17:09

Yeah this winds me up too. Parents often send their sick kids to school too due to work commitments etc.

ComfortFoodCafe · 19/09/2025 17:09

Wouldnt be caught dead at a soft play, grimy germy places.

Same! Thankfully my kid doesn’t see the appeal either anymore so not a big loss.

Same here, mine much prefer to be outdoors - whatever the weather 😂

If they are fit enough to run around at soft play then they don’t need to be in bed.

ComfortFoodCafe · 19/09/2025 17:17

As if people voted yabu. 😂 Obviously dont care about their sick kids long as they’re out of their hair clearly.

I disagree. Plenty of children with a visibly snotty nose and hacking cough spreading their germs around. One was actually being taken off to have medicine!

I know right? My little girl has just started preschool and collecting her a couple of days ago another child came out streaming green snot coming out of her nose, watering eyes, dreadful hacking cough. What on earth were the parents thinking sending her in like that? Aside from probably infecting all the other kids she probably felt awful and should have been at home!

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/09/2025 17:23

Couldn’t agree more!

Or if you must take them out of the house, take them to somewhere outdoor.

If they are well enough to be in soft play they are well enough for school!

If not school age, if they are streaming and germy, take them somewhere outdoor.

IDK that I agree. Anything like D&V obviously yes stay at home but chances are a kid with that wouldn’t be happily tearing around soft play. In the case of minor colds and cough under 4s in any sort of childcare typically have a persistent sniffle all winter long and coughs can persist for weeks so if they were all to stay home then the soft play would probably close down.

Re the medicine you don’t say what it was but worth keeping in mind that a child can usually return to school/nursery 24 hours after starting antibiotics because they’re no longer contagious, so would also be fine for soft play, but they’d still need to finish the 5-7 day course and would be taking it 3-4 times a day. So that doesn’t really mean anything.

I agree. If you kept your kids at home in bed every time they were snotty, they wouldn’t attend school or go anywhere from mid October until early April until at least age 9! Both my DCs’ schools are very clear that you shouldn’t be keeping them off school for a cold. Teach them decent hygiene around nose blowing, disposing of tissues, handwashing, etc, but do t make every sniffle an excuse to stay in bed watching CBBBies.

(Vomiting or running a fever is different obviously- for those you need to stay home).
