To feel put off when people ask, “Can I offer you some advice?”

I know it’s usually well-meaning but sometimes it feels patronising or intrusive, especially when I haven’t asked for input. I don’t always want unsolicited advice, even if it’s wrapped politely. Do others actually appreciate it or does it rub you the wrong way too?

On the rare occasion I’ve heard that, the advice has been welcome because it was obviously needed. I think if it’s a phrase you hear often, then maybe you really do need some good advice.

I agree with you its annoying and patronising. I'd prefer it if they said "im going to give you advice" or just go straight in and give the goddam advice!

Whenever I’ve heard it, it’s because the person feels very strongly the advice is warranted!
