Is this age range too old for pass the parcel?

DD is turning 8 and we are having a party for her with a few close families from nearby rather than school friends of the same age.

Trying to keep it low key and not too expensive, have booked a cheapish bouncy castle and it will be in the back garden. Im not sure if we need some party games?

I was thinking something like pass the parcel which isn’t too competitive but there will be around 15 kids age range 6-11 so not sure if it will be suitable for all?

Never too old.

I like the MN version that was posted on here years ago. Wrap a shoe box in wrapping paper, wrap the lid seperate to the box and when the music stops the kids get to open the shoebox and pick something. Fill it with sweets, random little toys or whatever you have to hand.

I found at that age they still liked statues, musical chairs, musical bumps. Anything that involved some good music and a bit of dance.

Sorry I stuck it in aibu as I couldn’t think what category it should go in and it was the first one that came up. No one needs to vote

That’s a good idea, I’ve not heard of that kind! Also trying to think of a gender neutral prize for the middle that would appeal to both a 6 and 11 year old as don’t know who will actually win it?!

We did a pass the parcel for my son's 8th birthday party, they all joined in (even the 10 and 11 year old cousins).

I agree, never too old. Mine used to like musical statues / bumps, but mix it up, when the music stops, shout “statue!” Or “bump” and they have to do the opposite.

HelloKittyFan · 17/09/2025 10:21

My 8 year old would still like that

That’s great to know, thank you! I was pretty sure they would all join in (I mean I would love to play and I’m 41 😂) but you never know. What did you put in the middle of it?

Lego in the middle and a sweet in each layer.

As per the poster above, little Lego set is always good for all ages.

I can remember playing a great party game aged 10 or so. You get a large bar of chocolate unwrapped on a plastic plate and sit in a circle around it, taking it in turns to roll a dice. If you roll a six, you have to put on a hat, scarf and gloves and then you can cut a cube off the chocolate bar with a knife and fork, and eat it. Keep going until someone else throws a six. Then they take over, putting on the hat, scarf and gloves etc. Often so quick you don't even get to finish putting the gloves on, let alone eat any chocolate, sometimes you get a few cubes. Very fast and furious and lots of fun. Good idea to have a small Freddo or something as a participation prize at the end.
