To think it’s really difficult to eat 30g of fibre

I thought I ate fairly healthy with 7/8 veg and fruit a day, but even if I start eating whole grain pasta/ rice I’m still way off 30g fibre. How many people can achieve this daily? Any tips very welcome.

I was listening to an episode of the Zoe podcast with a doctor talking about the protein obsession and he was saying that almost nobody in the UK is deficient in protein and most people already get plenty. The general point seemed to be that some groups need to focus on protein (elite athletes or the elderly) but that the craze for sticking "high in protein" messaging on the front of a UPF chocolate bar or a loaf of Franken-bread or consuming protein shakes etc is likely doing more harm than good.

That doesn't suprise me, and yes, it's one thing eating a bit more chicken or adding some lentils to your diet, but I fail to see what is healthy about a UPF chocolate "protein bar"

This seemed useful.

And no to Frank-en bread or protein shakes.

100g raspberries and 24g of forest feast dark chocolate almonds is 168 calories and 21g of fibre. I have it every day as my treat!

Those almonds sound to die for!

’Accidentally’ managed 38g today but mainly because my snacks today included an entire pack of Quorn cocktail sausages @ 8.8g, an entire bag of microwave popcorn @ 8.1g and a gut stuff bar @ 10.4g - the last of which was an impulse mark down buy at Tesco. Just wanted to point out that not all high fibre foods are necessarily super healthy/boring

(And yes, my sodium levels were v high today but it’s one day and as someone who has struggled with an ED in the past I’ve learned to look at my macros as an average over a period of time rather than obsessing on daily targets)

Two slices of wholemeal bread as toast, two as sandwiches and that's 28g straight off.

Which bread is this? Wholewheat is often about 3.2g fibre.

Depends entirely on portions of course, I think you are being very generous with your estimations, I’d be hard pushed to eat the amount of food suggested by them!

Indeed. Most rolled oat porridge is 3.6g. Ost bran is slightly higher, may be 4. Unless you are having 59 to 60g not 40g portion

Have a bowl of Kelloggs all bran

Sainsbury's version is nicer, less sugar. But they've dropped the weight from around 700 g to 500 g in the last couple of years and increased the price. Bloody cheek! It's still cheaper than Kelloggs though

Popcorn is a great source of fibre that hasn’t been mentioned so far! 🙌🏻

I finished up my box of all bran today, which meant I had 60g. I was amazed to find this is 16.8g fibre- and still only 200 calories- what a start to the day!!

Well this thread has got me thinking and trying harder so I have had chia pudding for breakfast with walnuts and blueberries so I reckon about 12g. The german rye bread is 8g for 2 slices so ill have that for lunch and iM up to 20g. It is hard though unless you are making a massive effort as things like apples are good for you but have 2g in and you can't eat tons of them.

Wordsmithery · 18/09/2025 09:39

Pulses are great for fibre, plus good for your gut flora.

If I ate it at lunch time, I can call it lunch.

The bagel has 27g of fiber by itself.

What kind of bagel has 27g of fibre??? That’s nonsense it’s going to be closer to 5!

Even the ‘fibre plus’ bagels are only 4.2g of fibre.

Anyone reading the Fibre formula or No-nonsense nutrition. They look interesting and I follow both on Instagram
