AIBU to vape?

I’ve never smoked but have recently started vaping over the past few weeks. I’m a single mum to a 2 year old. My vape seems to help with my stress levels, makes me feel less stressed, it’s also making me feel more relaxed amongst other things. I originally started vaping because a couple of my friends do but now I actually think it’s helping me? I am definitely addicted to it though because it’s my hand all day and I just puff away on it all day, I don’t think I want to stop though.

Does anyone else vape for similar reasons? Or does anyone else vape but never smoked? Do you find it helps?

I know it’s probably not good for me but it does feel like it’s helping to relax me and destress.

I don’t even know if I could stop if I wanted now, I already feel so addicted to it to be honest.

Vaping is actually worse than smoking. Be careful.

This is utter nonsense.

This is a rhetorical question, but why do people do this? It's not like fact checking is difficult.

MaloryJones · 15/09/2025 10:25

Do what YOU want to do
I vape but I smoked. Don't think I'd have taken it up if I'd never smoked but who knows.
I mean it kindly 🙂

TheFlis · 15/09/2025 10:27

if it’s in your hand all day I assume you are vaping around your 2 year old? So they are breathing it in as well?

CasualDayHasGoneTooFar · 15/09/2025 10:28

You've only been vaping for a "few weeks" - just stop it now

JaneEyre40 · 15/09/2025 10:28

It's absolutely disgusting.

Valid8me · 15/09/2025 10:29

If a couple of your friends started smoking crack, would you do that as well? Just stop.

Pippa12 · 15/09/2025 10:31

Try to stop now whilst you’ve only been doing it a couple of weeks. Don’t do it round your your child.

It is extremely addictive. Many people have talked about how their experience of giving up vaping was much worse than giving up smoking.
Research is uncovering more previously unknown adverse effects of vaping on the body.
Vaping is actually illegal in a lot of countries. For a reason.

DaisyChain505 · 15/09/2025 10:33

Why would you want to take this up?

It’s expensive, it’s bad for your health and its setting a terrible example for your child.

There are so many other ways you could handle stress in your life.

Do a YouTube yoga session in the evening once your child’s asleep.

Get outside in nature more often.

Take up a hobby.

Every penny you waste on a new vape could be put towards a lovely day out with your child instead or saved to better their future.

RaininSummer · 15/09/2025 10:34

It does seem silly to allow yourself to get addicted to vaping. Try to reduce it or knock it on the head entirely. Not great for your child to see or be around and you definitely won't be able to stop them doing it too one day if you are puffing away.

So you're addicted and asking for justification to carry on? Just stop it. As mentioned above, if your mates started smoking crack, would you? I'm sure crackheads think it helps them...

Christ on a bike....I am pretty sure you could have tried other things like yoga or Pilates to reduce your stress and yet you reached straight for a vape. You could also take up knitting or crochet to help. Stop vaping now.

I'm just glad I read this thread - if not for mumsnet, i'd've had no idea that vaping was akin to crack.

Well a lot of people do seem to think that vaping is somehow harmless and has no downside.
And it's extremely worrying that there is an epidemic of young teenagers taking up vaping when it's even more damaging to their developing brains and lungs. Setting themselves up for an addictive, hard to kick habit.
The way the government, via the NHS,latched on to vaping as a cheap easy option to help people quit smoking before the harmful and addictive qualities were known was dreadful.
