Can anyone else not stand white noise or am I weird?

We are a very loud house and despite my baby being exposed to this since conception she will still startle and wake up at a LOT of sounds.
So I made the mistake of clicking an ad for this cute white noise rabbit and was then of course flooded with it every time I went on social media. I have one of them personalities that once the seed is planted I get a bit obsessed so I of course bought it and waited patiently for it to ship dreaming of all the things I’ll do when my baby is peacefully sleeping with this bunny.

well it comes and I cannot stand it! The sound just grates on me and I cannot tune it out it just pierces me. Does anyone else get this from white noise? It’s obviously the complete opposite of the desired effect lol

my baby is also completely unimpressed and it hasn’t helped at all so that was £50 wasted.

I don’t like white noise either. But, I got an App on my phone where you can change the sound to a different “colour”. I have found I prefer brown noise, which is lower and softer. We use it at night for our dog. Don’t ask 😆

Shame It doesn’t work for your little one, I used white noise with both my kids and they slept peacefully every time. My DD still has the machine in her bedroom and she’s not long turned 4.

I enjoy it myself, helps me focus when I want to focus and helps me sleep when I’m overthinking or stressed.

This.
I have tinnitus and can cope with it most of the time but occasionally I need help. White noise grates, pink is slightly better but I find brown noise works for me too.

Google noise generator app and you'll find one to suit.

White noise just reminds me of the tv static you used to get when a channel went off air. Now i sound really old ...im only 38!

Noshadelamp · 15/09/2025 09:54

Can't stand it. I prefer a podcast or audio book.

I use pink noise. Still hate it but the kids like it

Can’t stand it. It also seems like a hassle to have young kids that are dependent on it for sleep e.g. when you’re on holiday or unexpectedly stay out post nap time or bedtime.

I didn’t know about the colours I’m definitely off to google. She does tend to go to sleep to the sound of the tumble dryer and although I find it loud it doesn’t pierce my ears the way the baby white noise machines do which I think is supposed to be womb sounds.
Makes sense that my mum said I was born early because I kicked through and broke her waters before I was apparently ready to come out. Obviously couldn’t take the sound any longer lol

Hate it.

Was in a pub when a couple came in with a white noise machine playing for their baby

I had to move. My friend didn't mind, but I had to move.

They market them all as portable now built into toys so you can take them out with you. Can you imagine relaxing by the pool on holiday and next to you someone’s blasting out womb sounds for their baby lol
