DS not going to work after being there less than a month

Could do with some advice really.

DS is 19, he's autistic, adhd and has mental health issues (depression + anxiety although he's doing well with medication) and dyslexia (probably relevant)

He recently started working at a cinema, he's been there about 3 weeks this time. He did work there from about March 2023-September 2023, he only left because it became too much with college as well. The same manager is there from the previous time and he is a good manager and really understanding of DS, DS loves it there and I'm pleased especially after his struggles and the statistic of autistic people in employment is low.

Anyway, he's due at work tomorrow after being off this weekend, except he's unwell. He threw up yesterday afternoon and he's been throwing up since (today), I told him he cant go in especially due to the 24/48 hour rule I'm sure they have especially as he's on a till so working with food and facing people.

He's also not well regardless of the rule, but he completely panicked and said he's going to be fired as it's not a good impression. Last time he took 0 days off although I assume it's a brand new record now.

He's also dyslexic so I think he'll struggle on how to word it to his manager, and he's unsure about whether to send it now or tomorrow. He's due at work at 12 tomorrow. I'm leaning toward sending it tomorrow but what does he say to make it not look bad on his part? He's also quite upset with himself for not restarting driving lessons, as he said the other day a child threw up on the bus and he's convinced that's how he's caught it.

Any advice will be appreciated

He can't go in if he's been throwing up. He just needs to be honest and tell his manager about being sick. I can see why he feels anxious but I'm sure his manager would prefer him to be honest about it then go in and spread it around to all the other staff and customers. He can't help being unwell and if he is generally otherwise a good worker I can't see that it will be an issue.

Everyone is allowed sick days, please reassure him that his sick leave is entirely justified and in line with law and professionalism.

you say ‘send it in’ - send what in where? Please don’t let him text his manager late at night, if that’s what he’s considering. I assume the cinema is part of a chain as most are, they likely have a sick line to phone and guidance on when to do so. Check his handbook/contract or the info may even be online.
he need only say ‘I can’t come in today as I’m unwell. I hope to be back tomorrow/day after, but I’ll phone each morning to update you’
