Pelvic Scan

Trixie2012 · 14/09/2025 19:40

Hi I’ve been on HRT for 5 years which hasn’t been plain sailing , juggling dosage and spotting , I’ve had a few pelvic scans due to yet more spotting which showed that I have thickening of 5.3 , so I was referred to Gynecology, I was advised to reduce my Everol 75 to 62.5 by cutting the patch & to take Utrogestan continuous 200mg

This was in June the spotting has stopped since the patch reduction but I’m nervous of what the scan will show next week , if I’ve still got thickening what will happen , I can’t bear to think about stopping HRT

Any advice please ? Has anyone been through this ?

I scan as part of my job and up to 6mm is ok on HRT

Trixie2012 · 14/09/2025 20:27

Thankyou for your reply , I am worried especially if it’s increased , my meno Dr said that a red flag is raised over 4mm ,I do get mild cramping occasionally but was told that just because I’m not bleeding doesn’t mean that there isn’t thickening .
Im thinking ahead but I’m petrified of having a hysteroscopy

I've not had a single problem with taking compounded bioidentical HRT for ten years. Perhaps you could try switching to that? It is super expensive though.

SerendipityDiamond · 14/09/2025 20:54

I can’t comment on your situation but I was also scared of having a hysteroscopy after reading about bad experiences.
i have had two recently and they were absolutely fine. I had gas and air and no pain just some sensations.

Trixie2012 · 14/09/2025 20:58

Thankyou for your reply , I’m hoping that it doesn’t come to a Hysteroscopy , HRT has had its benefits for me but I’m so fed up with the spotting , scans and adjusting doses

Without HRT the limit is 4mm, with HRT it is 6mm.
Hysteroscopies… I have heard mixed reviews from patients, make sure they give you some kind of pain relief if you do need one

Which brand name is this under? Thanks

I've had two hysteroscopies and they were fine. You can choose general aneasthetic but I had local/topical anaesthetic for both. Wasn't any more uncomfortable than a smear test.

That’s reassuring to hear thankyou , I had a call today it’s a man doing the pelvic scan , I don’t know why I’m not happy as I’ve had them with women before . I’ve waited so long for the appointment I have to go with it 🙄

I had a man for the scan and another one for the hysteroscopy. There were women in the room as well.
Both were fine. Very respectful and reassuring.

Evergreen21 · 15/09/2025 17:40

I had a hysteroscopy under general anaesthetic. I assumed it would be under local but consultant said having never had a vaginal delivery it may be more painful for me. I was happy to go with it a female nurse was in the room and I was well looked after when I came around.

Are you this anxious normally? I've had pelvic scans done by males with a female nurse or chaperone in the room. If this is a concern then ask them.

Is that for the pelvic and transvaginal ultrasound. Don't worry that the sonographer is a man, there's always a chaperone even when it's a female sonographer in my experience. They should also ask before they do something and keep checking in with you. I hope it goes well.

It's not a brand. It's made up on the premises of a compounding pharmacy from the doctor's specifications. The hormones come in creams or capsules.

Thank you. How can others tap into a bespoke approach?

You may have to go to a holistic doctor/alternative medicine clinic. I'm not sure about how accepted they are by mainstream medicine in the UK, as I am not a UK resident.

I had a c section , the lady that phoned said it would be a consultant performing the pelvic scan
I’m hoping no Hysteroscopy but I’ve got thickening
Was you in any pain after the Hysteroscopy ? I might take a couple of pain killers beforehand just in case 🙈

I’m a sonographer and if you’re on continuous HRT (which it sounds like) then the endometrial thickness limit we use in my area is 4mm. If on sequential HRT (where you still have periods) the limit is 7mm.

Trixie2012 · 15/09/2025 23:58

Hi thankyou for your reply I’m on continuous HRT
if my lining is 5.3 what can be done to thin it would I need to stop hrt I’m currently on 200mg Utrogestan

I had 2 paracetamol and 2 ibuprofen about 30 mins before the hysteroscopy.
Didn’t have a local anaesthetic but used gas and air which was brilliant.
Had some period type pains on and off for a couple of days but just took paracetamol.

Trixie2012 · 17/09/2025 19:55

Did you have a Hysteroscopy for thickened Endometrium ? If so may I ask what the outcome was ? I’ve also got slight tummy pain which concerns me

OP posts:
SerendipityDiamond · 17/09/2025 20:42

I had bleeding on hrt which I didn’t really do anything about for a couple of years.
Had a scan which showed some thickening so needed a hysteroscopy.
Needed a polyp removed but all fine apart from that.
