Disability living grant

Does anybody know much about this? As you may have seen from my other threads our house is not currently suitable for my two DC. They have to share a bedroom and DC two is autistic and has very bad meltdowns which often result in Dc one being hurt. He needs his own bedroom where we can remove anything that he can hurt himself on and she needs her own room so she has a safe space to go to when he is having a meltdown. Moving isn’t an option due to finances. We think we could just about split one of the bedrooms on to two very small box rooms if we move the bathroom around slightly. Is this something that a disability grant is likely to be approved for or would we not qualify?

I think that you meet the eligibility criteria but the plans would have to meet building regulations and planning laws.

Would a single storey extension for a ground floor bedroom or bathroom, or a loft conversion be possible instead? You might find a house with 2 box rooms difficult to sell in the future, making it harder to move on to a larger home if your finances change. If you could find a way to increase space rather than rearrange space that would make more sense financially and it would be better for your DC to have larger rooms if you are there for the long term.

Have you got an OT who could do the assessment?

Google disabled facilities grant and see some additional info.

Talk to social care at your Local Authority. They will come round and do an assessment.
