Aquascutum…. To expect a decent return on a pre loved trench?

I have an aquascutum trench , one of the long ones but it is quite oversized on me and I’m thinking of selling it on vinted or r some other site that would sell it. It is worth £ 500+ new, I expect but feel it would be a waste to pass on for less than £ 250. Would that be unreasonable of me , do you think?

It depends. How old is it? Does it look worn? Looking on vinted now, they all seem to be around half that price - less than £120.

Well, how old is it? Condition? Is it a dated style or bang up to the minute? One of the drawbacks of sinking a lot of money on something ‘classic’ like ‘the perfect trench’ or ‘perfect boots’ is that they can just look a bit dated when what you were shooting for was‘perennially stylish’ . I have learned this the hard way so would hesitate to drop a lot of money on a trench. That’s an item I would spend less on, in order to have the budget to switch.

but I am neither buyer nor seller of secondhand clothing so shrug

You can try. The market is probably pretty small, but if you’re happy to wait you may get there.

Expectations are one thing, reality is another.

SunnyDolly · 12/09/2025 13:03

Check the average price on Vinted (quick look suggests this is about £150) but it’ll all depend on how good condition it’s in, as to the price you’ll actually get.

WhereAreMyAirpods · 12/09/2025 13:03

I think 50% of what you paid for it is ambitious.

I am a charity shop volunteer, our rule of thumb is 50% of selling price if brand new and still with tags attached. If used, I'd probably put your coat out for £75-£100 tops.

If it's mint and desirable you might get something like that on Vestiare or another high-end designer reselling site, just factor in any commissions or authentication fees. I think its ambitious on Vinted though, everyone is looking for a rock-bottom bargain on there.

I think that price is ambitious for Vinted.

Hi there. I sell professionally - here is a guide.

Usually, preloved items go for a quarter or a fifth of retail unless you pull out all the stops.

Forget Vinted, it's a buyers platform, ebay is much better for sellers.

NEVER use auction - always Buy it Now.

Search Aquascutum in the search bar, select preworn and the coats category, go to the solds, order from highest price.

Select the highest priced coat sold similar to your own.

Press view item - look at the photos and description to see why the seller has achieved this price - you can copy and paste their description into your own listing if it's good, and then adjust it for your own coat's spec.

Press sell similar and adjust the specs to describe your item.

Take time on the photos and use the ebay edit to remove your background.

I'd say if you use the right wording, Great photos and if your coat is in as new condition you should be able to get £200 which is the highest one has sold for recently.

Good luck! Let us know how you get on.

I’ve never heard of this brand, and I’ve bought a trench more than double that. I wouldn’t try Vinted as people expect things for almost free. Why not try a higher end selling site that offers authentication too.

They were a high end British brand-much more so than pre M&S Jaeger. They had a beautiful shop in Bond Street

I have a tweed Acquascutum overcoat which I bought from a second hand shop for £220 last year. It's absolutely beautiful.

So far as Vinted I have paid £150 - £200 for brands I already own provided the seller has lots of photos, provides measurements and answers questions.

It is worth £ 500+ new It is worth £ 500+ new

When you say "new" do you mean the rejigged Acquascutum or the pre it all went pear shaped Acquascutum? Pre it all going pear shaped Acquascutum coats were £1,000s not £000s. My tweed coat is pre it all went pear shaped.
