Picked up a friend's 10 year old feom school, the usual, park we walk to the car.
As all kids x3 are getting in, I say, be careful with the doors as usual.

She opens the door and scraps the car next to us.

People in the other car ask to exchange numbers as they might make a claim.
Reason for might is because it's a tiny scratch, slightly smaller than a matchstick head.

Took some pics but you have to zoom in to capture the scratch.

First time being involved in such, what happens next, will my premium go up,
do I pay or do the 10yr old's parents pay?

Thanks.

I think you pay as you were responsible for the child at the time and could have held the door for them.

Although if it was my child I may offer ti
contribute.

May be worth not making a claim and just offering to pay to get it fixed. Ask the owner of the car to take clearer pictures so you can get a quote.

Though I wouldn't expect the child's parent to pay as shit happens, if you were that fussed about the door, you should have opened the door yourself and held it open for them.

You pay. You were the adult in charge.

Jesus!

Why does this stuff need to be explained?

And no, you didn't just pick a friends daughter up from school. You agreed to take responsibility for the wellbeing and behaviour of someone else's child. Including being responsible for any damage that you have allowed the child to cause.

Thank you, haven't mentioned it to the parents yet.

We've parted ways. They said they might be in touch or leave it, so I guess a waiting game.
Thanks, will offer that.

Because I wasn't sure, you didn't have to answer!

You’re responsible for any costs- your car & you were responsible for the child.

If I were you I’d offer to just pay for the fix, will be cheaper than if they go via insurance.

Thanks, but she's left, so will wait and see if she makes contact.
Genuinely didn't realise people claim for small scratches.
