I get it’s pushing an agenda, but think it may also be a correlation/ causation thing? Supporting kids through sport especially more than one generally needs a family with stability organisation, structure and let’s face it, often a considerable amount of money. Keeping all my three playing sport as single parent is one of the hardest logistical challenges I’ve done, and frankly only been possible as blessed with a supportive mother who happily drives to soccer matches when I can’t be in two spots at once and really helpful other parents on teams who have reached out and helped. I think sport is great as a part of girls lives but not sure it’s quite the differentiating factor it’s here made to be?

Girls who play after-school sport in UK 50% more likely to later get top jobs, study finds

Despite benefits, girls far less likely than boys to play sport due to cost and lack of access, according to the research

I'm not sure what you think is the point of the article, because it isn't about the logistical challenges faced by parents. It is exploring why there's such a difference between girls and boys regards participating in sports, especially team sports. There is a clear set of skills built through playing team sports which, granted, can be learned and developed in other settings but are very clear in teams.

I thought the same when I read it but I would be interested in whether the study took those other factors into account. My personal experience is that my daughter has had massive benefits from her team sport both socially and physically/mental health wise. I definitely think that the effect of high intensity exercise (football team, swimming club and dance team) has helped her hormonal fluctuations and confidence wise greatly. She has only been doing these at this level for the last year and it seems to have made a noticeable difference. But yes I did wonder myself about the parent commitment correlation.

Absolutely agree- I think sport is hugely beneficial for all children, and have been frustrated by especially one of the high schools really prioritising the boys over the girls.
