My husband got invited out with his boss and family's obviously. I'm sorry but last iguanas is not somewhere to be taken by a boss. Never heard of it. Quick search on Google.th first thing that came up was Iceland new range. If something is in Iceland I'm very sorry but no

Are you just cross the boss didn’t invite you to sample Mexican chain delights?

RosesAndHellebores · 10/09/2025 22:36

Never heard of it. The boss paid. Wasn't presented as fine dining.

It might be an issue if the boss is a Magic Circle Partner and your DH is a rising Associate. OTH DH earnt more than them for most of his career and last minute with colleagues might have been local curry house or fish and chips - occasionally wives/husbands/so's would join
They were partial to that if clients weren't paying.

You’re pissed from red wine at 9pm on a Thursday night but you’re too classy to go to a chain restaurant? Okay love. Whatever you say.

RampantIvy · 10/09/2025 22:38

I had no idea that Las Iguanas had ranges in Iceland. I never shop there.

What does it say about the OP that she knows this?

Please tell me its not Thursday and is still weds or ive lost 24 hrs 🤣🤣

I’ve not heard if Las Iguanas, maybe it’s regional thing. But we regularly go to Cote, The Ivy, Pizza Express and Wagamama as these are all local to us and great for a cheap meal. I can’t be snobbish about such things.

TowersofGable · 10/09/2025 22:41

It’s standard chain restaurant fare - perfectly fine, and ultimately a free dinner. I wouldn’t be complaining.

MolluscMonday · 10/09/2025 22:42

To be able to look down on people whilst being almost illiterate yourself is quite the feat, OP.

Cote!

That’s the one I couldn’t remember. Thank you.

Another nice one.

It is particularly bland food, Wahacca is better

YouMightThinkThat · 10/09/2025 22:49

I think Jay Rayner’s job at the FT is probably safe for the time being 😂

Respectfully OP, loads of chefs have their own range in Iceland, would you give their restaurants a miss too?

You sound like a snob, an alcoholic one as well. Drinking on a wednesday, shame. Shame indeed.

Edited

This is a bit ridiculous as well TBF. I'm drinking on a Wednesday and not the least but ashamed, but would also jump at a free meal out.

Hallywally · 10/09/2025 22:52

@Dartmoorcheffyit is Wednesday! 🤣 I promise I’m not pissed, just hormonally deranged 😂😂

Ponderingwindow · 10/09/2025 22:54

Chains are wonderful for work meals because chains are much more likely to provide ingredient lists. That means people can check all allergens, not just common allergens in advance. If they don’t publish the information, they are still more likely to have the detailed information available onsite.

finding out the ingredients in something as simple as a piece of bread can be surprisingly difficult in a restaurant.

work meals need to account for medical restrictions.

NoThanksNeeded · 10/09/2025 22:55

The first thing I get when I Google Las Iguanas is not the Iceland range...

Sadly, my nearest Wahaca is 150 miles away from where I live, so if I wanted Latin American food I would have to cook it myself or settle for a "bland" meal at Las Iguanas.

What’s wrong with being taken there, I’ve been to work events there and plenty of other chains.

FlockofSquirrels · 10/09/2025 23:01

Drink a glass of water and go to bed.

Allthefruit · 10/09/2025 23:04

We often use chains because by and large they are much better at allergy management than independents

Financial · 10/09/2025 23:06

I think this meal is something you’re best avoiding OP, for everyone’s sake.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 10/09/2025 23:07

Chains are good for us as a family as they have great allergy info. So much less stressful as you know what you are getting.

Bellabatwings · 10/09/2025 23:12

So you look down your nose at chain restaurants but are pished on red wine?
Dont go, you might get drunk and show yourself up🙄

Hallywally · 10/09/2025 23:12

@MagnificentkittehThere’s a difference between having a mid-week glass of wine and getting so sloshed at home you post incoherent rants on Mumsnet slagging off other people for something perfectly acceptable.
