Over the last few months I have been noticing these tiny crawling things about the size of a pin prick with legs. I have googled and Googled and the only thing coming up is bed bugs (my worst nightmare). I've not managed to get a clear photograph of one up to now as they are so small. Surely I would be seeing bigger ones by now if they were bedbugs? I have found them on random things around the home and in crevices of couch bed (which I have read bedbugs also hang around :(
If they are not bedbugs what could they be?
Are they likely to be bedbugs?
I would estimate that it has been around 5 months but I am starting to see more of them.
They all seem to be the exact same size as eachother. If they were bed bugs wouldn't I be finding diffrent sizes?

Please help, freaking out.

I would guess dust mites . They are tiny . I think you're probably right in thinking other insects may have sizes in their life cycle .
Google dust mites

Could you google an inage and share here.
In the meantime what have you done to get rid of them? The only thing that works for bedbugs is heat - washing at 60°c and hot steam. I would suggest a steamer for the carpet and upholstry that you can not stick in the washing machine. Usually bedbugs will hang around where their meal is. They don't go to far away. So they hang out in used beds and chairs etc. And they like to eat at night and retreat in the day.

Try google and share here.

I don't think dust mites are visible to the naked eye. If they were bed bugs, you would have noticed that you'd been bitten. Have you been bitten or are you itchy?

Are they wood worm beetles? I had these after taking in an old wooden shoe rack someone left outside! They were everywhere. I got some spray and used it a few times and they went eventually thank god!

@Forestfire12345 I was thinking dust mites but when I google them it says they can't been seen with the naked eye but I can definitely see them.

Chat gpt says to get one with sticky tape to try and identify and suggested one of these if helpful? Doesn't think bedbugs.

  1. Booklice (Psocids)

Size: ~0.5–1mm, translucent or light beige, move quickly.

Habitat: Found in crevices, around books, skirting boards, windows, kitchens, bathrooms.

Cause: Thrive in damp, humid environments and feed on mould or microscopic fungi.

Harmless, but they can become numerous.

  1. Carpet beetle larvae

Usually a bit larger than a pinprick, fuzzy, and slow-moving.

You’d normally see different sizes though, so less likely here.

  1. Mites (various types)

Some species are tiny and appear as dark pinpoints.

Can be associated with dampness, plants, or stored food.

Usually uniform in size if it’s one particular mite species.

  1. Springtails

Minuscule, ~1mm, often found in damp places.

They can jump slightly when disturbed.

Thank you all. I am now leaning towards mould mites but when goggling it says they are constantly everywhere and I have only seen a few every so often in random places around the house.

Do you have pet birds or any open containers of seed/cereal/flour?
Birds can have tiny feather mites and I once got a bag of bird seed that was infested with tiny bugs.
I also had an infestation of mites in a bag of flour. They swarmed the entire kitchen cupboard before I noticed 😣
