Just that really

Where are you? SE about £30 an hour.

FirstCuppa · 10/09/2025 10:50

Depends how often you garden/work they need to do? I have struggled to find a regular gardener who will come each week so I now do bigger gardening with a company 3 times a year instead. They cut back hedges and bushes, mow and general edging etc for about £350 and it takes about 3 hours.

AngryBird6122 · 10/09/2025 11:00

SE £15 an hour

TheCurious0range · 10/09/2025 11:02

SE £20 and hour but he does our elderly neighbour and just does ad-hoc bits for us as we mainly keep on top of it ourselves

SE £15 an hour

That seems very cheap.

BoarBrush · 10/09/2025 11:41

Our gardener is here for about 4 hours, he always asks for just 20 quid, we give 50/60. It's his wee cash in hand hobby but it still blows my mind that's all he thinks he's worth.

Idinnaenah · 10/09/2025 11:48

older teen - mows, hedges and generally tidy - £40 for 2/2.5 hrs

RoverReturn · 10/09/2025 11:50

£38. This is for about 1.5 hours work

RuthW · 10/09/2025 12:15

£30 an hour

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 10/09/2025 12:28

£15 per hour for 5 hours. We supply all tools etc. and he doesn't take garden waste away

toastandegg · 10/09/2025 12:32

£38 for 2 hours, he doesn’t take away waste, midlands area

VanilleFraise · 10/09/2025 13:06

NW - I charge £22 per hour and don't take waste away.

FirstCuppa · 10/09/2025 13:14

How often do all of these gardeners come and what work are they doing?

I think I would struggle to get someone to come less than 2 times a week at £20ph. I've not got a tiny garden but every week they'd probably only need to be there 1hr...

Dangermoos · 10/09/2025 13:26

30 quid for mowing and weeding and keeping trees tidy. Every two weeks.

Doobiesista · 10/09/2025 13:43

£45 for an hour and a half once every 2 weeks with a pause in the winter for 2-3 months

FirstCuppa · 10/09/2025 14:43

I'm starting to feel like all the gardeners in my area are extra picky! As with cleaners, unless you can offer 2hrs + work a week they don't want to know!

I don't mind how often I do someone's garden, but it does need to be a minimum of 2 hours.

If I drive half an hour to your house, work for an hour and then drive half an hour to the next call then I've effectively worked 2 hours for the £22 that I've already stated i charge- ie under min wage.

NannyOgg1341 · 10/09/2025 15:13

£20 a fortnight, he mows the lawn, trims the hedges and does a 'big cut back' in spring for an extra £10. He's like a ninja, I've no idea when he will come but at some point I'll look out the kitchen window and it's done!

Exactly! This is why I have struggled to find both a cleaner and gardener. I actually think a brilliant job would be to do a cleaning and gardening job COMBINED as I could find 4hrs work a week easily then!

SarahAndQuack · 10/09/2025 15:45

NE, I charge £27.50 p/h and I don't like doing less than 2/3 hours (I will do 2 if you are near an existing client). I don't take away waste unless by arrangement and I'd charge for it.

I don't understand how anyone makes a living on £15 per hour unless it's a hobby - after you've paid tax and insurance that really isn't a living wage.

But would your average gardener want to work as a cleaner, and vice versa? Confused

It's a bit like saying 'gosh, I do wish I could get my hairdresser and my son's tutor to double up, would be so convenient!' I mean, sure, maybe. But, although I pay about the same for tutoring and getting a haircut, I would imagine it'd be a niche kind of overlap.

Because they have to earn a living! Ffs.

UpToonGirl · 10/09/2025 18:04

NE - just pay for mowing once a fortnight (small lawn) £25 per visit.

Yes, and sadly, even if you think a garden is gorgeous and you would genuinely love to work in it, if someone else is offering a secure 6 hour day and winter work, you are going to prioritise them.

I'm trying to imagine the cleaner/gardener idea in practice - can you imagine going on to your second client of the day?!

'Hello Mrs Immaculate White Home, it is I, your cleaner! What's that? I am wearing mud-caked boots and shedding particles of hedge from my hair, and there clings to me a distinct perfume of manure? That's because of my special trademark profession: cleaner then gardener!' <twirls>

mondaytosunday · 10/09/2025 18:30

£35/hour for someone with qualifications. If just a labourer/general person about £20-25/hour. This is London.
