For about 4 months there have been more than one day a week ( more during holidays ) where I am aware of 2 children under 10yrs left alone due to 1. Lack of childcare 2. Socialising by a single mother with not much family support. I don’t want to get involved but feel this is a safeguarding issue - although there would be no proof if investigated as she would deny ?

I won’t know exact days unfortunately …

Why not? Do you actually know this is happening or have you just been told by someone that it is happening. If you know it's happening, how come you don't know which days it's happening? Who told you "recently " that they're being locked in? It's not making sense. But if you do know for sure, report it and don't wait another 4 months.

I voted YABU because you've known for 4 months and not done anything before now.

Remember those 4 poor boys who died in a fire after their mum left them at home alone while she went shopping.

If you know at the time that a child under 10 is home alone for any length of time, you should immediately call 999.

If you knwo after the event, you should call the non emergency police number and/or the Local Authority safeguarding reporting line.

But you do need to be specific if you can, because saying - I think they are being left/I've heard they are being left is not as helpful as - on Tuesday I know they were home alone.
But even if you don't knwo the precise times and dates, please do still report it, becuase it will trigger an investigation and at the very least a frim conversation with Mum that makes it clear that this is NOT OK.
And SS will then follow up wiht the family too.
