What time do your child go to bed?

Just wondering what time your children go to bed? My DD has just turned 5 and goes to bed at 8pm on schools nights. I mentioned this to other school mums and they seem to think it’s really late… She gets up at 7am for school.

My 9 year old goes up at 8pm but to be honest is still awake hours later and he will still get up before 7am

So if your routine works for you and she's not waking up tired and having low energy during the day then stick with it

Beyond this now, but back in the day the boys were in bed at 7.30 and would never settle until 10 + until they were 5 or 6, was hard.

The average 5 year old needs at least 12 hours sleep a night.

Children needs varying amounts of sleep. Just like adults. 8 pm bedtime rising at 7 am is really good. No need to change as suits you and the child. Sweet dreams

Mine are 7 & 12. 7 year old by 9:30/10pm and 12 year old usually by 10:30pm when she actually turns her light off.

We are not an early night sort of family. 7 year old not home from activities til 7pm sometimes, and we tend to eat dinner 7-8pm. Eldest has sports til 9pm 3 nights a week, so if we all have to go collect her (last night I had a meeting till late so Dh had to go get her with ds), then no one even getting ready for bed until 9:30pm.

7 year old wakes naturally 6:30-7am.

8pm and just turned 8 years. I’m dreading moving it to later, I’ve had enough by then. I think in about a year I’ll extend it to 9pm but say they have to read quietly or colour (mindfullness 😂) to keep my sanity.

Not believing it doesn't mean it's not true. I know children in other countries where children have later bedtimes who still need to go to bed earlier because they wake up early. Living in a country which tends to stay up later hasn't stopped them being early rises.

Agree with you and also neuro diversity plays a part. Mum of 4 so plenty of experience.

I don't believe it to be quite frank. If you have black out blinds and a consistent routine the sleep/wake pattern changes. There's many countries where children go to sleep and get up later; western children are just as able to adjust.

Not true, larks do exist. Its not just about light exposure its your whole metabolic clock & circadian rhythms, the timing at which you eat meals etc. I tried everything to keep my eldest up later and waking later, it never worked. On holiday as jetlag shifted he would revert to waking at 6am wherever we went.

Stop talking sense, this is Mumsnet 😂
