Extreamly shaken up liquid thrown out of car window

Wetwipe44 · 09/09/2025 09:21

I was walking down the road and someone just threw a a liquid out the car window not a bottle just the liquid it hit my hand and leg. I ran into the co op to grab water to throw over it rang my mum who advced I rang 101 they literally said as I didn’t get the reg there is no report can be made. I understand it could have been nothing and in the shock this happened around 25 min ago I might be exaggerating but that could have been acid or anything I was with my 3 year old daughter too.

i feel really shaken up from this

If it was acid it would of started burning immediately, most likely just empting a cup/bottle and didnt see you there.

turnedthattvoffforgood · 09/09/2025 09:23

Jesús wept. What is this world coming to. Are you in a any pain? Hopefully it was just some idiots chucking water but no wonder you are shaken up. Sorry that the police can’t do anything. Have a sit down and relax now and get yourself together, you poor thing it’s terrifying

But it wasn’t. Someone just threw the last of their tea/coffee out of the window and you were unfortunate enough to be in the way. It’s happened to me, it’s not pleasant, but you’re not helping yourself by imagining catastrophic events that didn’t happen. It’s done, it’s over, you’re fine - move on and forget about it now.

This has been happening loads round here - eggs, bottles of liquid thrown from moving cars at pedestrians and cyclists. And then even worse the last few weeks, in the dark there have been bricks thrown from a car into the windscreens of oncoming traffic. It’s really scary, the police are interested here though at least once the bricks started!

Runssometimes · 09/09/2025 09:32

Well, I’d be a bit shocked too and have had this happen to me deliberately when I’ve been on my bike. Also had someone slap my arse when I was waiting in traffic at a lights. It’s illegal for them to throw things out of a vehicle (Highway Code) and perhaps they weren’t meaning any harm, but obviously there are side mirrors to check. As no harm
was done I’d personally move on. But I do understand how your first thoughts were that it was dangerous or deliberate. Nothing you can do without a plate and from experience it’s highly unlikely this would be taken further.

PersephoneParlormaid · 09/09/2025 09:49

DS had a carrier bag tied up and full of fluid thrown onto his windscreen at night, from a block of flats. Friend is in the police, he said they wouldn’t be interested.

Yet more absolutely mindless anti social behaviour. It would be shocking if this type of horrendous stuff wasn't becoming the new normal.

I really sympathise with you OP. It was a frightening experience and those trying to minimise it can't be aware of the number of women badly disfigured by corrosive substances thrown at them.

Me and another passer-by had bleach squirted out of a basement window at us the other day! All you could see was a hand and a bleach bottle, sash window was open just enough and dark curtain pulled. This person is on my block!

Sundaymorningcalla · 09/09/2025 10:02

Are you sure they didn't operate the washer jets whilst driving past you?

Starlight1984 · 09/09/2025 10:05

Oh come on! You could literally say that about anything. Someone once chucked a McDonalds wrapper out of their car window as I was walking past but I didn't ring 101 saying it could have been a bomb?!

This is also likely - surprisingly a lot of fluid can come out!

I am not surprised you are shocked , you okay ?

Many many years ago now I was at traffic lights, waiting to cross, and a car drove through and I was sprayed with a water pistol to the face. . Luckily it WAS only water and it was a hot day so though annoyed at it all it was cooling tbf.
Could have been so much worse

Digdongdoo · 09/09/2025 10:23

I think you should make a report anyway OP. You can usually do it online, no need to speak to anyone. They probably won't do anything with it but i like to think they might eventually twig if its a repeat offender.
I had a burger thrown at me as a teenager. It was horrible and actually quite painful. Some horrid people about.

JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch · 09/09/2025 10:32

I had this happen to me recently - I was next to my car and some kid squirted a water gun out of the back of the car his dad (?) was driving past. I got into my car, followed them and raised merry hell when they stopped.

CaroleLandis · 09/09/2025 10:33

If there was no jeering or name calling then it was most likely someone emoting out the dregs of their drink and not deliberately aimed at you.

The police would be all over it if you said hurty words were used as they take hate crime seriously.

As there wasn’t, it’s just inordinate that you got splashed.

Flakey99 · 09/09/2025 14:23

Maybe you should tweet on X that you intend to kick the bollocks of whoever threw the liquid? That should get the police interested although they’d probably arrest you. 🙄

“Unfortunate enough to have been in the way”?

The driver or passenger should have used their bloody eyes.

Sorry OP, hope you feel better soon.

Good, they should take hate crime seriously.
