Three hours of shrieks, charging around like a loon and more charging.

It’s almost like you have never heard of an over tired child!

OrwellianTimes · 08/09/2025 18:25

First response nails it.

If they are used to nursery the perhaps not. Round here the reception kids are only doing a couple of hours a day to ease them in.

Spacecowboys · 08/09/2025 18:30

😂 this was my youngest dc. He calmed down at age 16.

hoohaal · 08/09/2025 18:32

My eldest was like this (now 8). All the other kids were falling asleep on the way home from reception class. My Daughter would easily have stayed up
until 11 at night.

She is starting to calm down a bit now she’s 8, but not much!!

I’ve heard of overtired children. And DS isn’t it.

First post didn’t nail it; first post was desperate to be smug and condescending and certainly nailed THAT!

My DD came straight home for a nap after 1st day. I thought it was great and began to plan round that. It was the first and last one though, they adapt to a new routine very quickly I found. Me …not so much.🙂

I found that reception was so much less active than nursery and home that mine did have a lot more energy compared to a day of nursery.

PumpkinSeasonOctober · 08/09/2025 19:38

They’ll crash by the end of the week. Don’t let them over do it too much at home, encourage some quiet time activities so they are a bit more rested without realising it.

LavenderBlue19 · 08/09/2025 19:40

Mine was hyper as well that first week - so much new stuff, new people, and much less time at school than nursery. He wasn't tired until later in the term, when they started doing proper learning and needing to sit still and focus more.

Even then he didn't seem tired... but his behaviour went downhill.

I suspect this is what has happened here to be honest. We are quite active as a family, to be fair.
