To think most psychiatrists lack empathy

Especially with regard to sucidal patients. I know of a young woman recently who was told me a psychiatrist that it was her choice if she took her own life.

@Coffeeforbreakfast88your counsellor was wrong. It is an act of desperation in many cases. The person becomes deluded that you, their loved one will be better without them. Maybe in a young boy with no previous history of suicide it was an act of anger but that’s certainly not the case every time.

Not at all. The Psychiatrists I know are professional and empathic but also boundaried. They don’t allow themselves to be caught up in the drama triangle of rescuing patients which is a common trap that friends and relatives fall into, for obvious reasons because of the emotions involved. That statement is true. It might be hard to hear, but it is.
